hey all, me and the missus are looking into touring ireland for a week in sept. cant afford my own camper so looking into hiring one, if anyone knows of any in our area that are reasonable. (somerset) were not entirely sure where to go and what to do with ourselves yet, so kinda asking around any great places to visit along the way, we both like castles an stuff bit of nice road'age would go down nicely too. so far its looking like ferry over is about £100 each way and rental is guna be about £500 for the week, in something like a t25. really want something with character, but not overly keen on split screens, they're nice but just a bit obvious. something like this works an this one is looking like a winner and local too. so yeh any advice would be great, still just planning things as is.

That looks like a good option. Some hirers charge a premium (probably for insurance) when you take a vehicle out of the mainland GB. paul H

thanks! that seems like a good option it crossed my mind but hadnt looked into it.
walk onto ferry cost is about 25 per person, don't know about flights. so that would save a fair bit. only trouble would be carrying all our gear, but I'm sure we could trim down a bit. will be taking a dog with us too though. so that kinda rules out the plane option.

lazydays.ie aren't far from Dunlaoghaire ferry terminal. Maybe collection from there could be arranged?
retrocamper.ie aren't far from Dublin airport and offer a collection service.

The main targets for touring holidays are in the West coast of Ireland, known for the rugged landscape and coastline. The West coast encompasses everything from Donegal in the NW to Cork in the SW. As you're talking about a week's holiday in a T25, it'll likely take you a day getting across from the east coast, so you'll need to select an area.
First places that come to my mind, and some starters for you to Google :
Mizen Head, the south-western tip of mainland Ireland. Killarney, the lakes, Ring of Kerry, Gap of Dunloe. Dingle peninsula. Galway, Connemara, the Arran Islands. Mayo, Westport and Doo Lough Pass to Leenanne. Donegal, Cliffs of Teelin, Lough Swilly.
You'll be tripping over good roads. Even the main roads out West aren't very 'main', and I mean that in the good way. :-)

thankyou guys will deffinatley give me more options to go by, i'll have to just ring around and enquire with uk companies to see about going abroad, and also enquire with irish firms and see about collection from near port etc.
great info darryl much appreceated, killarney was a part we wanted to cover and the ring of kerry had popped up alot in my searches, looking on google we figured the coastal road might be worth a journey. will look into the other places mentioned and try to form some sort of route.
