hi all, bought this car last year after seeing one on here! when i got it it had suffered some rear end damage but was worth repairing. pic of how i got it. one showing the rear damage. it had put a slight crease in the rear quater but that was easy to repair. overal not bad nick its been magazine featured and is quite clean .needed lower front wings repaired due to rust but got two new front wings to go on before it goes to my mates spray shop. its been lowered on hr springs but its nowhere near low enough yet.ive been buying all the bits ready for when it comes back. as it was going to the paint shop. we also realised that it would be quicker and easier to put a new rear panel on than repair it so my mate had one delivered to his workshop. ive been removing various stuff as well to keep it minimal, mud flaps,3rd brake light, wing mounted indicators,30 years of crud !!! let me know what you think.ive got loads of parts ready for reassembly and loads of plans. thanks. ;D

Very nice, and nice to see proper repair work rather than a patchwork of stickers. There's an early 80's Merc, not sure what model, nearby that I used to see everyday. It was mint, then ne day I noticed rear quarter damage, exactly the same as yours. Unfortunately it hasn't been repaired and it's been like that for about a year.

hi thanks for the replies , ive managed to source some period 15" cross spokes that ive had the lips mirror polished and i'm about to respray the centres black gloss. same as these but all black centre. ;D as for further lowering ive seen some with just standard cut springs, its got hr ones that look quite new so will try a coil at a time until ive reached the desired height.(low). as they're uprated it should be ok. also the exhaust needs to be moved higher. it needs a few bits and pieces but thats the fun of sourcing them.just cant wait to drive it now.!!!!!

nice car , if your springs have a few coils very close together then cut them ones as itll leave the spring in its propper shape , can always get a spring company to make the springs you need,.

finaly got the mercedes to my local mot station today ? after going over the car the night before i was pretty sure it wouldnt be a major fail but with older cars you cant be to sure.
in the end it only realy failed on two items.
1.drivers side track control arm was kinked.couldnt tell when on axle stands but was visable up on ramp. 2.missing wheel bolts.i couldnt find them in time so shared them between the four wheels to get me there so no suprise.and an easy fix tomorrow.
will get it re mot'd on my next four off so then i can get out and use it. cant wait
lastly anyone suggest a exhaust company as ill need a new one soon or good second hand one thanks.

Exhausts can be a pain and expensive to get. Your best bet is to get a stainless system made up, but if its any louder than standard then for some reason it devalues these! Otherwise you spend similar money on a mild steel system

Depending on where you are, the SS exhaust on my W126 was done in Huthwaite near Mansfield.
Same amount of silencers, so fairly quiet. Been on the car for almost 9 years now. Cost £700 in 2004, and still has warranty on it (had a leak at a joint and they fixed it FOC (beer token given for good service of course))
They can make it as quiet as you like, but cost will go up. I take yours will have the twin pipe system front to back like mine as you've got more or less the same engine if I'm not mistaken (M103)
