I bought this back last December, but it doesent seem like that long ago and I havent had time to post up a topic about it yet let alone do hardly anything with it! The car I got off a friend who had to quickly shed a few cars. Anyway the story with the car is it was owned new by an older gentleman and my friend aquired it in 2005 and its been in storage since. Its got genuine just under 28K miles! the condition inside and out is superb, almost like new, bar a few scuffs unfortunatly aquired whilst it has been moved about to different locations. The Tax and Test ran out in 05 but she starts on the button and drives perfect. From what I can tell the only things wrong with the car are a noisy clunk when turning the wheel hard left/right (ball joint / tie rod end?) and one of the coolant pipes going to the rad has rusted and is leaking. She is a 2 Litre GLX Auto model, Zetec 16V, feels really quick in sport but havent got to do a proper drive unfortunatly. Although she's a GLX my friend added little bits here and there from the GHIA models such as wood/chrome trim, floor lights, headlight protectors etc I'm tempted to carry on his work, maybe add some more stuff like the ghia grille (if I can find a mint one in same colour!) All ive done to it is a few tiny minor cosmetic and mechanical things, my plan is to get the thing MOT'ed but havent had the spare cash or time to do so with all my other cars and stuff going on, want to aim for getting something done with it by the summer, 7 years is too long for this lovely car to be sat doing curse word all! lol Here's some pics

Thats very tidy, takes me back to the days of BTCC when these used to fly round the track. I saw one of these the other day for the first time in ages and realised that I see more sierra's than mk1 mondy's.
Your's has the rare factory option of no gaffer tape on the bumpers to!

Hah, my family uses a mk1 mondeo as a daily. It's in surprisingly good nick for having 250k miles on the clock. It's a TD though.
Great working cars.
And for a car like it the low mileage just boggles the mind ;D

Yes lol I'm chuffed with the condition as most MK1 Mondy's are pretty scruffy these days when you do see them, which is not that often My aim is definatly to preserve this lovely example as they are getting rarer and rarer, because no one seems to give a toss about them and are just abused as cheap runabouts, and as you say Sierra's are now more common PS forgot to add into this topic, that the whole reason I have a soft spot for them (when most people don't) is probably due to the fact one of my very first cars was a Ford Mondeo 1.6L Saloon and I loved it to bits and was angry at myself for getting rid, so when this came up I snapped at the chance to redeem myself and preserve it heres my first Mondy from waaay back in 2006

Very nice.... I had an M reg saloon back in 2007, 1.8 TD. Prefer the look of the saloon to hatch in MK1 form. Mine was a GLX too with the same interior, them seats are so comfy !

Thats a nice car there, especially rare being a saloon. In a few years people will be asking where all these have gone, they were so common not long ago just like there predecessors' the Sierra and the Cortina. My dad has a 2.0 ghia x mk1, its pretty rough bodywise but still a nice drive. Hard to think that next year the early ones will be 20 years old!! Ive had a few myself and to be honest i think they are a much better car than the Mk2 version, seem more solid to drive and comfortable somehow

They are definately better than a mk2, even though they are very similar, the mk2 just felt "heavier". I had a mk1 2.0 GLX manual when I was 17 that my dad gave me, I made the back of a rover 75 look much better on the M25, needless to say my dad kicked me off his insurance and I got a cinq sporting lol

I worked for a Ford dealer when these came out and laughed at the promo video. How wrong I was, they're a revelation in handling and comfort. The saloon is easily the best looking too. Double or even triple win for you I reckon, nice one.

Thats great. I just hope it wasn't a victim of the "Shock Horror Probe" Quentin Wilson old Top Gear reported scam which involved putting GLX badges and wheel trims onto LX cars and selling them at inflated prices!! Jeez, the 90s were tame weren't they. I had almost forgoton about Mk1 Mondingos. Great cars - one of my best ever drives was a hire car from Bangor to Swansea, in about '95 all the way through the sweeping roads of mid Wales, 5 up, overtaking everything and averaging 70+!

Ah, the memories.
My dad had a State Blue Mk1 Si Saloon when they first came out with the factory RS bodykit and 16" Diamond cut RS 7 Spokes. It actually was a lovely looking car. As much as he loved his Sierras (he had a Sierra GLSi from new to 100k miles) the Mondeo was enjoyed very much with a crash barrier making it a CAT D (it did make its way back onto the road).
Quite rare to come across one as tidy to be honest!

Nah, it's not an LX. Leastways, if it is, it's got the GLX seats.
Can't say I'm a huge fan of Mondeos (to be fair the one I had was a bit of a dog) but that is properly tidy, and I hope it stays that way. ;D

I have a strange love of these. I think its the last ford dash I actually liked! My friend had a 2.0 and it seemed to be allot faster than it should have been. great to see one of the old rep mobiles getting some love! Doesnt make me feel too mad about my vectra B now

Looks a very good example, there can't be that many left in such condition. These mk1's are dying off very quickly now aren't they.

Remember the old man having couple of these as company cars in the mid 90's, I must be missing something as I hated the things tbf,.They were diesel ones and remember if you wanted to overtake something the process was drop it a gear or two, switch the air-conditioning off and kiss your before pulling out.... At the time I had a 1600 mk 3 cavalier that was waaaay quicker and had 150k on the clock...
