Since my fiat project has ground to a halt due to lack of interest I have decided the best way to cure it is to pull another car apart- in the case swmbo's 1972 beetle aka "lovely bernard"- the plan is to take the engine out, refesh all the gaskets and give the engine a nice paint job, repaint the engine bay, waxoyl the under side, fit a set of recaros to make it a nicer drive then get him moted for the first time in 2 years... so last week I pulled the engine and stripped it- and was left with a big pile of greasy stuff- which meant I coudl finally use this- to make the bits clean- next plan is to use this to blast them- and then I can powder coat them with this- (can you tell Ive been hoarding tools for years) I want to get this all done in the next few weeks so we have at least one decent car for the summer whilst I play out every stupid long winded indulgence on the fiat- more soon.

Thats a very nice bug. I know how satisfying it is putting a garaged project back on the road, just MOT'd my golf after 9 months of hibernation and transformation. It feels very special on the 1st proper drive

Thanks for the kind comments guys its appreciated when some one comments on what doesnt seem like alot of hard work but took me an age! do tell us more about: powder coater, parts washer, media blaster Where from, how much etc...? Would love some of those tools at home. Lovely bug powercoater is from www.electrostaticmagic.co.uk/ and is easy to use and I cured my stuff with a heat gun (swmbo wouldnt let me put the stuff in the oven...) the parts washer and media blaster are both from ebay and where about £50 each- I really like to do everything my self hence having them - beleive it or not I only buy tools when I need them not because I want them this little lot has been accumulated over 25 years... (since I was 14!) I just finally have a space big enough to use it all- be warned if you want a media blaster you need a big compressor - an aldi one wont cut it!

Thanks guys- I was motivated to do some more yesterday- we inherited a set of Astra gte recaros a few years back and since I sold the old front seats to the postman I thought I'd better mount them- eBay universal seat mounts are about £40 a pop and I had a strong feeling I would have to hack them up when I got them so I decided to buy ten quids worth flat steel bar and make my own starting with the aforementioned flat bar- I made a square frame I could bolt to the seat base- Then made some uprights (adjustable at the front as it is for her indoors and we want the ladies to be comfy- Then bolted it all in the car- Today I inserted a set of runners under the seat so it now moves backwards and forwards...! thine luxury- all for £10... better go make the other one now!

Haha, I love the zebra wheels!
Nice little project and fun little car this! It must be hard work steering that thing at low speeds with the wider tires, lowered suspension (it is, isn't it?) and tiny steering wheel!

Bored? Got zebra vinyl? Make Zebra wheels! Well, they're certainly different! ;D I like them, goes really well with the cars colour. How well do you expect them to "weather"?

I'll best honest I don't think they will hold up for too long although the car is always garaged so at least they aren't subject to the elements all of the time but its £5 worth of vinyl so I can change them when the other half gets bored with it- smarties and astro turf wheels have also been suggested....
