Quick update, at the end of the last installment i'd run out of welding wire. I also ran out of gas. Finally managed to get hold of some and got back on with the rot. My original plan was to use the end of the sill/wheel arch that i'd chopped out to get that shape then just fill in the easy bit on the outer sill itself. However it was knackered, so a bit of bashing and bending later and I made a piece instead. Most of it is hidden under the plastic arch but I wanted them to sit properly so made a decent job of it. I've kept the arch lip short as it doesnt need to mount the sideskirt now. I'll add a little seam sealer ramp on the on the inside of the lip so that when I pressure wash under there no dirt gets stuck in the corners. Anyway, quick 2 min grind, coat of etch primer then a layer of zinc primer gets me to here. I've started chopping the rot out of the rear of the inner arch, hopefully get that welded today and we'll be getting closer to rot free. Matt

Got the rest of that corner finished (bar the outer sill section, we'll get to that later) Starting working out a positon for the hydraulic handbrake, seems neatest and easiest to use here Bought an aftermarket ally rad, great quality and cheap too And finally I did something that i've always wanted to do, a proper DTM style side exit exhaust. By leaving the bottom of the sill open it meant that once i'd chopped the initial oval hole I could get a dolly inside and knock a lip inwards to keep the stiffness of the panel. The box i'm using is a straight through Supersprint oval, might need modifying as its gonna be fairly loud. Matt

I've always liked these, never knew that they were such a good tool though. That paintjob has come up a treat as well by the looks of it. Good work mate

Nice work - liking the exhaust I'm planning similar with the commodore but I want to place it at sill level (hoping I don't have to have a box inside the car then

I'd like to do a sill level one at some point, would have to make an exhaust box to do it though I think, with the tailpipe level with the bottom of the box so you cant see it hanging down. Anyway I didnt get outside till it was dark yesterday, so took the shifter mechanism out and built myself a short shift. 25mm added to the side to side/front back levers and 25mm added to the overall height to bring it closer to hand. I need to file a small notch out of one piece as it's catching, and add a brace on the tower just to make sure there's no flex but other than that it works really well. Hopefully i'll get mk2 exhaust brackets sorted today, decided to mount the exhaust differently and its much neater, though it'll be covered up lol Matt

Bit more progress today. Remade the mounts of the exhaust, look much neater now and give some ajustability so I can centre it in the hole. Just need a couple of stainless 90's so I can hook it up now. And then started on the handbrake mount. Bit faffy as I didnt just want to make a plate metal box like most do as it weighs a ton and looks ugly. This is what I came up with. Still not finished yet I need to take the shifter out so I can do the other side. And hand clearance when its in place 5th gear 2nd gear with handbrake applied Should be plenty, pics possibly make it look closer than it is. Hopefully get it finished tomorrow then I need to make a bracket for the bias valve and start running the brake lines. Matt

I didn't think you could use vertical hydraulic handbrakes in road rally cars any more?

You can't, but I want to keep the stock mechanical one aswell. I'll just take the handle off for road rallies if I do them.

Yeah its basically a CA Colt with a bodykit and better suspension. The base spec Satrias are the ones to use for rallying really as they're a lot lighter. The satria sport looks the same but has the 1.5 engine. Group 16/17 insurance - nasty Mate of mine has rare Sprint model ( £270 ROAD TAX!) Also local was Persona Sri - now that is a proper sleeper and rare .Still awaiting my first sighting of ultra ultra rare Wira Sri Is no matter as usual anyway
