I'm a fan of the W123 and already own a tidy estate of the same year. I bought this recently due mainly to it's slightly crappy appearance and also the fact it is fitted with a fairly rare 5 speed gearbox. I was hoping for an MOT after a thorough service but it's going to need a little more effort than I have time for at the moment. So the pluses:
:)Starts on the button,
:)Quite a bit of history and hand books present,
:)5 Speed gearbox,
:)Solid car,
:)Taxed,
:)It's a period brown colour.
The not so good bits:
:(n/s wiper doesn't work (the spindle was seized and I think it's popped the link off,
:(Rust around a couple of jacking points and the bit that put me off a bit time-wise, o/s inner arch area. Wings tatty especially n/s.
:(Vibration when driving - possibly wheel balancing,
:(High clutch,
:(bit of a clonk from the drive train somewhere (may be driveshaft rubber joint,
:(Brakes need cleaning up (was expecting this anyway),
:(interior needs a good scrub,
:(n/s door damage.
:(It's period brown colour!
The negatives might make it sound a complete basket case but I think with any project car you need to look beyond it - I don't think any of us do this for the money!! It is a solid car and it has been driven a fair distance. It deserves a good seeing to and once up to scratch will provide reliable motoring.
