Hi everyone. First, I'm from Finnland so sorry for my bad english. Here's my new summer ride. I did have a motorbike for few years, but all the rain and wind were finaly too much for me ;D She's '89 Fiat Uno Fire 'Doris', with mighty 1000cc engine (or whats left of it). It was a real bargain I think, only 400 euros and mot'd at the same day that I bought it so it can't be realy bad. At least I hope so ;D But because it's over 20 years old Fiat there's ofcourse some minor rust spots and one bigger on the body, that's what I had found at least for now. The floor and under the car is a small mystery because I don't have any garage space yet and weather is pretty curse word on jan and february, it's like 30cm of snow untill april, and temperature being from +2 to -20'c . I try to put some better and more pics and plans of the car next week, I have to find my cameras pc cable first ;D

Hey. Welcome. Your English is perfectly understandable to me. I'd guess way up there in Finland a car needs to work well and not let you down. Also going out to the garage in those temperatures takes a special kind of commitment. Have some inspiration

Thanks The Hörmann bodykit was one of the plans, but if I would actually find one somewere, it would either need some serious fixing, or good one would cost a fortune. I think it looks really good on MK1 too

Lovely, just like the one I used to have many years ago. If it has the dodgy brown plastic dash too my trip down memory lane will be complete! Love the way the ariel is drooping in the cold weather, very anthropomorphic.

Yes, it has just the same brown swinging '80 plastic dash ;D And also somekind of original ashtray is still in place I will put more pics this week when I get my camera working again. I wonder why it has two antennas, because the radioantenna is on the roof....? Did this thing had an LA-phone back in the day or what it might be? ;D

Hi everyone again, I finally found all parts to my camera ;D So, some little update to Doris's starting condition Bodypanels are surprisinly straight, only a little dent on the driverside door and on another front wing. Paintwork isn't that bad, but I will paint it over at some point. Why there are Harley-Parkinson stickers all over my car? The Sting special edition ;D Some say, that it may have 4litre V8 under the hood... But no. All we now the that enginebay looks like some awfull crimescene. Including fixes made by some local Bob The builder... ...and some wires that don't end up anywere ;D Belt changet 14 years and over 55000 km ago ;D Surprisingly for it to being over 20 years old Fiat there is body rust only under the rear and front window. Surprisingly not even under the trunk seal. But then there is this. El Grande hole. And the fixing goes again to our Bob section. Does someone know what are the places to chekc for rust in firstgen Uno? I'm remowing the carpets and stuff when it gets a little warmer in here Interior is in pretty good shape, just one cigarette hole in passengers seat. I'm not sure yet do I like or not those boyracer look leather panels ;D The switch boxes are pretty cool I think, reminds me little of Citroén Visa Wonder why it has a testing button for handbrakes warninglight? ;D Boyracer revcounter is a definetly in the no section. I have to change it to something nicer same time when I install the temperature cauge. Not bad overall km I think. There was also trunk full of original parts. Next thing to do, some tlc to engine, getting it closer to the ground and finding some wheels. I ordered some yellow headlights that should arrive any day soon. Untill next time, cheers

Lol that washer bottle looks bigger than the engine , guess you don't fill it to the top because it will effect acceleration to much

All flooding back, same interior as my old one. Spent all my time trying to cover up the brown (this was the 90s when brown was ugly rather than retro cool) had grey carpet over the door panels and where you've got the red 'leather' and some rather lovely black and red seat covers, never could do anything about the dash though. Looks much nicer now, maybe I'm just getting old... I quite like the rev counter there, maybe a bit shouty but I'd rather have it than not. You getting rid of it completely or just finding something more subtle?

I'm not completely removing it, just changing to little smaler, not so tuning looking, maybe some Smiths. I used them on my Mini and they look very nice I think. Also adding engine temperature meter. The dash is even brownier in real life than on the pics, but I have some plans for it ;D It has some minor schratches all over it, trying if I can wax them of or do I use the parts from my spare parts car.

Hi all Little updates to Doris. First, the new lights arrived. And in the enginebay too. Removed the powerfilter, replaced it with the original wich was found in the trunk. Also removed the sound/heat insulation, cause the filter was also rubbing to insulation and the hood ;D The original filter box was in fine condition, but it was missing the other holder. Have to get it from the spareparts car. Also couple of clips to the pipes and one wing nut to hold it in place. Looks much better I think And since tomorrow is the first of march, it means I can drive with my car. The law says you must use snow tyres at least from december to february in Finland. Have to go for a little test run to see if it still works after a long winter ;D Also doing little rim testing tomorrow. Cheers

These Unos are pretty cool. I remember my dad bought a Uno Turbo of this vintage once for my mom - she drove it once and then never again because she was scared of it

There's the little difference between turbo and grandpa models. This is not scary in any area, exapt maybe if you overtake with this, 'will I make it?' feeling is sometimes very strong ;D

Very cool, I wish we could have them here. Find a wrecked Abarth and fit the Multiair turbo, no more passing problems.

So, firts day driving it this year, and it ran surprisingly well. Only problem was (surprice...) some electric problems. While driving all electrics including wipers, ligts, whole dash and heater stopped working for a while. Problem were loose and broken wires inside this thing.(don't know what's it is in english) Couple of connectors and some sanding later it was working again. At least for now ;D Next, I went to check how my parts car was doing. Some bulletholes on the trunklid ;D Got some replacement parts out of it Removed the old un-working radio and filled the hole with the compartment I got from the spare car. Removed the red 'leather' panels from the back, desided not to like them ;D Also putted some soundinsulation in. There was also some nasty moisture inside, have to dry it before putting the panels back. Also tried the 'new' rims. Looks quite good I think. I will paint them black before installation. (bad quality, sry Spacers needed, doesn't poke out enough ;D I was thinking about painting the dash black, but I've started to like it in brown. Not sure witch way to go, any opinions? Brown... ...or black? Next time some engine renovation. Cheers

Do the doors from 2.gen two door Uno fit straight to the older one? Inspected the doors after first proper wash and the turned out to be pretty crunchy from under. If someone has better knowledge, it would be good. There is one 2.gen Uno where I could get replacement doors if my own turn out to be very crappy, but it's on it's way to the junkyard soon. Thanks

That would be quite a sight patrolling with this ;D ;D It would explain the weird extra-antenna on the side. Wonder what it has been, never seen one befofe. Some special detective equipment...? ;D
