Okay so I think this is a bit of a special one, probably about as rare as you're going to get, as of 2011, only 4 Subaru XTs were still on the road, only 2 Manual ones of which this is one! That makes this 50% of all the Manual Subaru XTs in the country!

Anyway, on to the car; its a 1988 Subaru XT Turbo with switchable 4WD. Its got the EA82T 1.8 flat 4 which puts out 139bhp, the WRX's great granddad if you like.
The main problem is that last weekend it spat all its water out. It appears to be leaking from the bottom of the engine, which I can only imagine is water leaking from the right hand head. It also burns a little bit of oil which may be oil leaking from the engine onto the manifold and burning of as this comes from the same side as the water. HOWEVER, the oil and water don't appear to have mixed. The water does have a little bit of an oily film but the oil is still clean. It still seems to run fine and still pulls strongly.
Best case: Throw another gasket on and you're on your way
Worst case: Swap the EA82 for an EJ20 from an impreza (about £250 for a decent one) and bump the power from 139 to 210...
A video from before it took a leak:
The switchable 4WD works very nicely, comes in and out and in 4WD its pretty quick off the mark and when you're not in 4WD its FWD. It even has a rear LSD so, if you disconnect your front driveshafts you could have a lovely drift machine...? ;D
It is also running on AIR! The XTs came with independent air suspension as standard, meaning its very comfy and rides the bumps very well. It also has a height button so you can adjust the ride height although I don't think it adjusts it much! It had a new air bag at last MOT and it all seems okay, its not saggy at all at any corner and the air pump works fine and pumps them back to pressure at start up. You can buy spring conversion kits though if you fancy some slam... 4 tyres with plenty of tread on each corner too. Currently the brake fluid warning light is stuck on but in the time I've owned it the fluid hasn't dropped at all so its probably just a loose connection on the sensor.
Oh and the relay for the pop-up lights is stuck so they're open all the time, however the motors work fine because when prompted they move up and down fine.
Outside, the car is in good shape, all arches are very clean and original, no bubbles or filler to be see, a rarity for such an old Japanese car! Underneath its solid, its had welding done before (obviously) and had a slight amount of welding done to both rear sills when I got it back in October. There's the odd scratch here and there like on the front bumper but nothing too nasty.
The only real problem with the shell is the sunroof; apparently an inherent weak point on the XT, the drain holes get blocked up and the mounts where the sunroof sits rust away. Unfortunately, it has happened on mine but luckily, it hasn't spread to the roof outer skin so from the outside the roof is good. Fortunately, I have a spare roof and sunroof in much better condition (but not perfect) so all it would take is to cut the inner part of the roof skin out round the mounts and replace it with the other one. It is currently sealed up with silicone so it doesn't leak but pictures are below.
Inside, the interior is in great condition and after a very very deep clean it came out lovely! The interior is mental, 2 spoke steering wheel, clocks that move with the wheel (which moves up down/in out!), pistol grip shifter with 4WD button, crazy chequered seats, OEM tape player, plush carpets etc. It doesn't have the Digidash however it does have a very cool Gran Turismo style readout when you switch it into 4WD.
Other than the engine, thats it! I'm selling so I can finish off my Polo project however If it doesn't sell i'll probably just hold onto it and put an EJ20 in it some time in the future. Its a stupidly rare car and i'll never find another!
EDIT: I forgot to mention that it has a LOT of spares, my entire cellar is full of spares. Stuff like doors, wings, glass, a spare roof and sunroof, nearly an entire interior, seats, relays, electrics, allsorts.
I'm after £850, let me know if you're interested. You'll have to come trailer it away.
