Well, I'm getting rather too excitable about the forthcoming road trip to collect my new car, so here is a pre-emptive readers rides as I will be far too busy fixing it next week to post anything. Anyhoo, the story so far. . . . while perusing a little used VX forum I spied a for sale add for this car, the time was wrong but the price was right and it is local enough (Devon) so I registered my interest. The seller offered to email photos so I waited patiently. That evening, I received several emails with about 35 pictures, brilliant. Based on the description and the pictures I said yes and have made the necessary arrangements to collect it this Friday, 17/02/12. I've booked MonzaNikkis dad and his Discovery and we're hiring a trailer for the day. The car is seemingly unmolested, manual but strangely no overdrive, all the usual bits.. 5 stud axles, twin carb, all the knobs and dials etc etc. It's been off the road some years but has been indoors. Brief investigation says drivers seat required as incorrect one fitted, 2 or 3 patches of welding, flush of the fuel system and brakes need a sort out. This may, of course, all be nonsense. I've bought it blind basically and I'm winging it somewhat with me fingers crossed. Still, the inner wings look good, the boot area looks solid, it's largely complete and, as with many half started projects, comes with some choice spares. It's showing just over 62k Yay. Enjoy some of the pictures I was sent until I can update them with my own. So, I'm expecting something that doesn't run and is rusty in places.... I'm expecting it to be running and possibly stoppng by the end of the month. Further bulletins as events warrant, I'll have it on the ramp Saturday so more pics soon and a full report as to what I'm really up against.

That is cool. A schoolmate's dad had one of these back in the day. IIRC his had a front spoiler and a 5 speed getrag 'box. It was blue like yours.

I'm sure I recognise that one.
For my sins I was once chairman of the VX4/90 Drivers Club.
The 5 speeders are interestingly badged VX490 without the "/" and have single headlights.
The spoiler would possibly be a rare DTV item, I've seen a couple in my time but not many.

I had four FEs, and used to have a website, fe2vx - had Victor, VX1800, VX2300 estate and a Ventora. Love 'em. Nearly bought the yellow VX490 (USA 333S?) back in 2000ish...

That's what I've come to refer to as an 'honest car', and they're my favourite for starter projects because of the ones I've seen, they generally don't have any nasty surprises, just nasty things you're aware of. Great colour, almost as great as your green one.

The front spoiler was a good idea, these things developed a lot of lift at the front end and the steering gets very light at high speed. My favourite, the Ventora wasn't quite so bad as the 3.3 straight six is a real boat anchor. The OHC four was part of an engine range that was intended to include diesels and a couple of V8s, sadly killed of by the oil crisis. Just imagine how much fun that would have been!

The Viscount V8 prototype was a very handsome car indeed... Found the remains of my old site. It's probably full of errors, but it IS over a decade old without being touched... home.btconnect.com/dmc12/fe2vx/My Ventora had been planned to be purple metal flake with white vinyl roof, purple and white interior, restyles, nose-down stance, wider wheels at the back... I think, sadly, I have even lost the badge from it now. Love the back seats on a Ventora, they're pretty stylish compared to a Victor/VX

The Viscount V8 used the Holden V8 not the Vauxhall V8 which was a 4.0 SOHC thing.
USA333S was a great car, Mike Nash's 5 speeder which was one of the factory fuel injection cars as I recall.
The Fe2VX website has a pic of my old FD 2000 with the turbovec wheels on. TNP276F.

I'm not even going to try to describe how jealous I am. Were you at VBOA Billing last year? I'm sure there was a VX4/90 for sale there, smack bang in the middle of the traders stands. Oh how I was tempted!
Still keeping your Victor then?

The Fe2VX website has a pic of my old FD 2000 with the turbovec wheels on. TNP276F. I didn't think the SOHC V8-related-to-slant-four got into any cars, did it? Would have been an interesting engine though, particularly if the 16v heads had made it onto it. 4.0-4.6/5.2, 32v quad-cam V8... From memory the FI cars (and 333S was one) didn't actually have the FI kit though - they were normal VX490/dogleg 5-speed, but again, I think they had fuel injection on the logbooks or something. The story I heard being that Opel had a hissy fit over their performance (one assumes >120mph and a pretty impressive 0-60, faster than the Ventora by some margin) being greater than that of one of the new Opels (FWD Cav/Ascona, maybe) that was about to appear. Much prefer a slant four to a CIH anyway. Hell, I prefer a Family engine to a CIH. I should do something with that website, really. Back on topic, I cannot wait to see how this one progresses!

Right, well, it's here and I'm here and all is well in the world. Here's where it all starts then. First of all I'll clear up a couple of points, my green 2300S is staying, it was the first car I bought and I'm attached , as an 'S' model, it has the Ventora style rear seats, yes they are MUCH cooler. 333S is a car I have lusted after many a time but far out of my reach . Anyway, to the story. Sorry but no Paint pics (yet) but you'll get the idea. At some ungodly hour this morning, I got up, not that I'd had much sleep as this was more exciting than Christmas! Take this as proof that I was up before I wanted to be. MonzaNikki did a sterling job of bacon sarnie manufacturing the previous evening, sadly she has a proper job and had to go to work. I took the day off for the adventure and MonzaNikkis dad was to be my wingman. 08:30hrs ... MonzaNikkis dad rolls up as arranged and we load bacon saries, paperwork, money, chocolate and assorted confectionery. Off to Ambrow Trailers to collect the car trailer. 08:50hrs ... While I was doing hire paperwork, the trailer place hitched up (which was nice of them) and did a light check etc and we were on our way. 09:00hrs ... On our way, navigation programmed, snack, us and the open road, ETA midday. After an hour of being rattled about and shaken up, I parped. Nothing out of the ordinary, I well known for my "talent", then I looked across at my chauffer...... This, at the time, was so funny I couldn't actually laugh, coupled with not being able to breathe...
