I'm just getting round to fitting a pair of twin 40 Solex carbs to my Starlet. Does anyone have any idea what sort of set up would be a good starting point on a Toyota 4k engine, as I've never had to sort a set up like this from scratch before & so have no idea about choke or jet sizes. Cheers

Egads, rare beasties ;D I imagine they're an utter mare to get bits for now - had a set of ones for a Sprint once, they hadn't survived the test of time well and I found it pretty hard to find any bits for them.... If you've got the manifold, pick up a pair of cheap, rebuildable Dellorto 40's. They're much easier to get bits for and will give you more options in the long run I would have thought Hold their tune quite nicely, too!

Very rare to read the words "cheap" and "Dellorto 40's" in the same sentence! ;D All the sets I've seen fetch loads... maybe I'm not looking in the right places... So are Solex 40's not any good? I don't think I've ever seen any

I'm not sure but I think the fact barely any are left kind of says it all....There was a Sprint racecar for sale drifting around with them on! Anybody? I bought my pair of twin 40's for 60 quid, they just needed a freshen up - that was off the 'bay! The 45's cost me a shade over double that but that was including manifold

easier to keep in tune than webers, because they are more simple. no idea about setup, the bmw 1802ti used them as standard.

I've seen quite a few J cars with them fitted & they all seem to get them running ok, I've only ever had anything to do with webers on my dad's cortina & they've been total sh1te, even after full rebuild & set up properly
