Just apply for a new V5 with a V62 form from the post office. You will have to pay £25 for it though

With it been off the road so long it will have never been updated to a V5 and then V5C so can't remember if you can retain the original plate if the buff log book is missing. IIRC you have to have the car inspected then they'll give you an age related plate.

If you get to retain the original plate it will probably be made non transferable . You may need to get a club on the V765 list to verify what it is before they will issue a V5C.

I had the same thing with the XR4i. The number plate didn't come up with anything, but filled in the appropriate form, and got the reg doc back with the correct number. We had the new keeper green part though, so didn't cost us anything.

buff log book? What? Surely if it was on the road 25 years ago it should have had a log book in the 80s (blue and cream) so gettimg a new one by applying for it should be easy. Even if its recorded as scrap you should be able to get the V5C on application

It’s still there - just hasn't been transferred to the new style document (it's under a "PLG" taxation class – you’ll have to go to a DVLA office to get it changed over to a “Historic” class) nor SORN'ed/Licensed.
You'll have to apply for the V5 (using a V62 form I think) - then make sure you SORN her (you'll be liable for her) - then you'll have to go to an office.

If you don't get the historic class changed, you'll have to pay the £71.50 & £130.00 when it comes to taxing the old girl...

Thank you for your help I could not find it when I looked but now it shows up so I just have to reply for a v5 . Can't wait to start working on it I know where there is a split screen minor rotting to the ground so thinking I will have to fit the splt screen and a small back window smack it with the stick and some wheels banded ;D

If you don't get the historic class changed, you'll have to pay the £71.50 & £130.00 when it comes to taxing the old girl... You can do that and then it will trigger something at Swansea and a few weeks later you'll get an updated V5C with Historic on it and a rebate for the tax you have paid.

No need you just get it changed when you tax it, just done it from disabled to PLG on one car and from PLG to historic on another (the silly sod was paying cos he didn't realise he could get free tax) but had to be at a local office.

how you will do that after all the DVLA centers are shut I don't know ? Ah well you see, as so many people on so many forums spend so much time slagging off DVLA LO's, for one reason or another,- they thought they would do everyone a favour close them all down. So now the general public will have to waste half a day of their life trying to get through to a call centre, only to find its all automated. All inspections will be held at the nearest VOSA test place,... no hang on, I forgot they closed some of them too, so that will be the furthest away VOSA test place...... It will all be privatised by the end of the decade I bet.

They've been trying to close DVLA LOs for over 30 years to my certain knowledge . The initial plan was to put the cost of VEL on petrol. Too strong a union opposition ( to closure) stopped it happening .
The golden opportunity presented itself this time around. Together with the ability to do so much more online made it 'easily' doable this time.

they should just knock the whole road tax thing on the head. It pretty much only pays for the cost of administering itself. Self perpetuating burocracy and now with no reason.
