45 years ago today, a legend was born.
In late 1966, some interesting-looking cars were being tested at Ford's Boreham facility. One afternoon Ford Competition Manager Henry Taylor and Chief Mechanic Bill Meade were watching what turned out to be the first hand-built prototypes of the Ford Escort lapping the Essex airfield circuit.
"Bloody hell" remarked one of them. "One of those would go like stink with a Lotus Twin-Cam in it"
The initial plans were drawn up for an Escort Twin-Cam on January 25th, 1967 (hence the codename: Project J25). Less than twelve months later, history was made.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEGEND!!!
