Well today I took the Vts for an mot, which it made it through with a clean sheet. Whilst I had a chance I had a try of the new rims on one side, before I fit some lower profile rubber (175/50 14 is the plan) But I'm not sure how I feel about these: Compared to the current rolling stock: I'm not sure, but I'm not feeling the old trims anymore either... what to do?

Looks good,
Perhaps 165/60R14 might be nice, these are nicely strecthed on 6J wide wheels.

The only thing that needs reducing is the front arch-to-tyre gap. Those wheels are sweeeet.

Are they BX wheels? They look pretty good, but with some lower profile tyres and a healthy dropsicle they'll look AWESOME! Maybe a good rub down and repaint in bright silver....but the style is spot on. Just the tyre fitment and altitude that needs sorting now

As Bruce says they look like BX wheels, personally I like them...... wonder what they'd look like polished?

The trouble with coming any lower is twofold,
1) It will completely ruin the suspension geometry, you can go lower but it ends up with the wishbones pointing upwards!
2) I have already knocked seven shades of curse word out of the sump at this height!
The wheels are BX Gti SMRs, basically the same design as the 16v's speedlines but only 5.5" wide, hence the odd tyre sizes.
The only thing that might improve arch gap is if I went back to my original 5 dr project and attempted to get the c15 arches on this instead.
Edit: the first pictures are misleading, for the normal arch gap, see the picture of it on the chrome trims, I'd only just let it off the jack for the bx wheels pics.

I see you added a new pic. I think the trims give the car a very different look and at that height the BX alloys will look lovely.
Keep the trims for winter, alloys for summer perhaps?

I think those new alloys look very much at home!

Hmm polish them you say? Well I do have 5 so I could have a go on the spare, I did think about getting a set of the phase2 16v wheels, or painting mine to look like this:

Yeah, I think I'm sort of saving any polishing until I've got it all how I want it, I want to build a subtle backbox for it, perhaps a set of yellow fogs (were yours sunk into the bumper? Are there any scrapyards over there that you could acquire parts from?)

BX GTi rims are awesome. But my picture of my old car with some on won't work
