so with the nice weather rearing its head, i was hoping to make a start on the starlet, although the daily comes first.
so the arosa has been swallowing more of my money this year.
firstly it has become a bit lighter with all the redundant bracketry of the seat removal coming out:
adn i remade the seat subframes for the subaru seats, as i was never really happy with how they were fixed before. (they moved about a bit, well alot)
now nice and firm. thanks to some nice box section:
so with that sorted it was time to turn my attention to the brakes, as it is due a new heart soon (more on that in a new post later when the block turns up)
a route around clublupo.co.uk found (what i thought) to be a good deal on a lupo gti rear disk set up.
here are the two beams lupo gti and arosa drums:
a straight forward swap you would think? well yes, although the lupo gti, in an attempt to save cost and weight, has its brake lines made from aluminum, and both the previous owner and the eliments hadnt been kind to it.
one line was bent beyond use, and the other was snapped, and pushed back together with an old nail! to say i was unhappy was an understatement:
my solution to this was to cut out and knock up a new piece of line, with flared ends that would bridge the gap of the damaged piece.
all worked well. although i will replace this later on as I'm just not happy with that many joints in one line.
which left us like this, a lick of paint and all looks good behind the minilights.
so to the front, and the plan was to fit my newly aquired vented and grooved disks, although these pose a problem as my original discs are solid (meaning thinner)
most people bodge these disks on by skimming the pads down to get the calipers to clear the wheels, or running massive spacers.
although to be honest i realy didnt fancy it. so decided to invest in a nice pair of new disks and pads.
so a bleed up and a check for leaks and all was well. I'm still running these in, although the improvement can already be felt. i might change the brake fluid for some dot5 as it still dosnt feel quite right.
and being a "scene" car (although i don't like to admit it) it wouldnt be complete without one of these, which are becoming a bit hard to find.
but look good nonetheless:
thanks for reading guys and girls.
