Inspired by Grizz's thread I wanted to try wood turning but don't have a lathe, but I do have a power drill, Made up a bracket to hold the drill (using a clamp from a vertical drill stand), clamped it to the work mate. Drilled a hole in the end of the wood block and cut the end off a screw so I could put it in the drill chuck, and off we go... lathe_1 by Country Photo (UK), on Flickr lathe_2 by Country Photo (UK), on Flickr Wrong type of wood, wrong (blunt) chisels, but not bad for a first try. lathe_3 by Country Photo (UK), on Flickr This really isn't recommended as a safe thing to do, copy at your own risk.I want a proper lathe now! Grizz I hope you realise what you've started... Mark

LOLOLOLOLOLZZZZZZ !!!!!
I am sorry mate.
I guess you realise this can be a hobby that bites really deep.
It is great creating stuff though.
WRT your lathe, that is all you need.
Keep your eyes open on Gumtree, freebies, ask on Freecycle to buy or get for nothing old metal files (They make great chisels and keep their edge) Also chek Ebay for badly listed items.
Well done !!!

Thanks for the links all a bit far away, I'm near Swindon, Wiltshire. Also I don't have anywhere to put it yet, needs to be a bench top model but I don't have the bench built yet.
Don't worry about the dark side I think it's more of a nudge than drag.

Talked to my dad about wood turning who has given me a set of wood turning chisels that were my Grandads, so 60-80 years old. There's something about using old tools... turning_chisels by Country Photo (UK), on Flickr Top is a modified normal chisel, bottom 3 are wood turning with long handles. Some other old tools I have/use. planes by Country Photo (UK), on Flickr Old planes, from my wife's father/grandfather, the middle one is great to use, needs a clean up. misc_tools by Country Photo (UK), on Flickr From my grandad, the box in the background was his as well. Alas what I also need now is a new power drill mine's burnt out! Considering this though;
