Couldn't remember if i'd ever posted up a thread about by mini so thought is start one anyway. I'll post up pictures as something interesting happens rather than starting from the beginning (way back in 2000 when I first got the mini). the MoT expired in August so decided to pull my finger out and rebuild the front hubs, as I knew the bearings had some play after the last trip to the ring and the balljoints needed reshimming. Decided to take the opportunity to convert to metro hubs as I hate doing mini ball joints. metro ball joints are presealed and shimmed for an easy swap. tTere's no problem running metro hubs either as my suspension is fully rosejointed. the rosejoints also highlight any play in the balljoints - also reason to convert to the metro type. This is a metro hub refurbed with new bearings and balljoints, painted in fetching Austin Champagne Beige (i have a large tin of it spare) I also swapped out the steering rack for a later "sportpack" rack for running 13" rims - these have less lock to stop the tyres scrubbing the inner arches (Mot failure). No photo but you can see here it is fitted with a mg midget track rod end (longer thread section) whilst it was all off, I repainted the bottom arms and the coilover bottom bracket as they were getting a bit of surface rust. In this picture, i'm using a large flat washer to tighten up the hub to 192lbs. I then remove the washer and fit the standardcone washer and retorque back to 192. This process allows the bearing to seat properly. Converting to metros hubs also means I need to get some M10 caliper bolts with a 2cm shoulder. Mini caliper bolts are 3/8. as I'm running KAD alloys calipers, I've also got to open up the caliper lugs ever so slightly.

well, i've managed to get the drivers side brakes refitted after a slight delay. if you compare the picture above to the early pictures, i've acquired some brand new metro drive flanges. these are the minispares version without the centre bore lugs. I was using mini flanges but were pushing the discs too close the metro hub. all i had to do then , was respace the caliper with a 2mm washer. i've also had 2mm machined off the outer edge of the discs as the discs were catching slightly on the caliper bridge when hot.

Bit of a thread resurrection here. I think in the last update in December 2011, i'd just fitted the metro hubs and fiited some new minispares spec metro drive flanges. all nicely prepped in BL champagne beige....... Since then, the minis has been to the MoT station twice (most recently about 2 weeks ago, and probably done in total about 100miles.......which is pretty disgraceful really....and its appears the beige paint has peelled most...ars-e So, whilst the MGB is hibernating up in Birmingham over winter (its for sale BTW), I got some mojo and have promised the mini some love for 2013. It went through the MoT OK bar a couple of minor advisories. Immediately after I decided that the mini should really be on 10" rims instead of the 6x13's it's currently on. The pricey KAD alloy 8.2" vented 4potbrake set up, that's done around 300 miles was promptly whipped off and sold, allowing funds to spunked on a set of minisport 7.9" calipers, bought at the Bingley Hall mini fair last sunday I'd already got a pair of new metro vented discs in stock, so they are currently at the machine shop being machined down to 7.9" diameter. A rummage around the garages found my scrotty 6x10 100+ minilights style rims which i'll get refurbed in the next few weeks. A set of 4 falken 165/70/10 were also procured at the mini fair for £155. Late on in 2012, i'd decided that I needed to get the interior tarted up (ie finished off ). I got hold of a secondhand onepiece red carpet set out of a late mini MPI, ordered to some new monte-carlo style red doorcards and got hold of a secondhand limeflower seat set. The c-pillar trim cards need to be fitted and I need to finish covering the inside of the fibreglass roof skin. I've got a pile of old stickers, clipping from period motoring magazines etc to cover the inside. More on that later on. I'll get some better pics when the brakes are on and the car can be rolled out of the garage......might even drive it Matt

Ashamedly, this is the only pic of the mini i have to hand at the moment. This was at the 'Ring, hassling M3's and surprising foci a few years ago. Only difference is that the roof is now black and fibreglass.

Crank pulley on the driver's side - engine conversion, then. Guessing from the GM oil filter that it's an XE? Should look good on 10s.

I dropped a new set of metro vented discs in at the local machine shop and got them back last night. Got them on the work bench and bolted up the metro drive flanges so I could do a quick mock up with the caliper..... was supposed to be a simple task but these things never go smoothly do they....it was 10pm and cold in the garage. swmbo had gone to bed so I thought a quick 30mins play in the garage then back into watch the rest of matrix reloaded on mugglevision. WTF? why won't the caliper go over the discs? it did before with the KAD calipers. everything was torqued up fine but the disc sat too far out from the hub in relation to the caliper fitment....a quick google and it appears minisport vented calipers use metro vented discs BUT a regular mini drive flange. Luckily I had a set of mini flanges in stock, but as the mini flange push the thicker vented discs much closer to the hub, the disc now caught on the hub. This is because i'm running metro hubs so a quick tickle with the grinder is required next - on the steer arm and a bit of pointless casting that doesn't seem to do anything /\ That's themini flange part-bolted to the disc. I'll be using some allen head bolts as the recess for the bolt doesn't allow a socket to go all the way down. Matt

SWMBO unexpectedly went out last night so i got a cheeky bonus 1.5hrs in the garage last night. first up was to fettle the metro hub slightly to allow the doscs to run close up to the hub. the metro hub has pointless extra castings on the hub: Bottom: Top: Next up was to get the disc on and torqued up to 255NM, but then noticed the castle nut wouldn't keep locked in place with the split pin (the CV's are aftermarket mini/vauxhall hybrids rated to 300bhp) Had a rummage about and found some suitable packing washers a further rummage found a box of EBC kevlar "street" pads for metro vented brakes. caliper hosed up and finally bolted on The night rounded off with me bolting on a 6x10 100+/minilight style rim with a shagged dunlop on... This now with the coilover under compression highlighted a massive arch-tyre gap. The coilover top mount has a lower setting so i'll try that when the passenger side brakes are done. SWMBO out again tonight ;D so hoping to get the other side done tonight

i finally got round to getting the old tyres stripped off and getting the alloys to a decent wheel place for powdercoating. i used lap tab in birmingham and they did a good job, 12 month warranty too. i had 5 alloys done, picked up yesterday and dropped off at my local tyre place for fitting. i got the tyres for £155 at a mini show in january little teaser pic .. the tyre guy only had time to do one wheel yesterday so hoping the other 3 wuill be ready later today

wheels now on and 20mm spacers with longer studs fitted to the rear to bring the rear track in line with the fronts back the front has been lowered by approx 1" by moving the coilover upper bolt to the highest setting...very quick.....this need to adjust the passenger side camber as its off by about 0.5deg when the camber is done, i'll take the mini out for a spin Matt

back in the garage yesterday for some mini based tinkering still requires some ride height adjustment though - mainly the drivers side tyre catches in the arch flare during cornering. so last night I decided to fit my set of 4 Cibie spotlights. the mounting frame was already on the car but I'd not fitted the spots as they vibrated a lot. what was needed was an upper brace frame last night I got as far as cutting some 2mm steel strip and fitting into place reading for welding. this took about 2 hrs including 1hr looking for small stainless steel nuts and bolts and general faffing about Matt

......and i weighed one of the new 10" tyre/wheel combos. they are 3kg per corner lighter than the 6x13" i've removed

Tops out at about 110. This will be getting a fresh ticket over the next few months, then some TLC prior to sale ;-( Yes, after 16 years of ownership it'll be going.

Any particular reason for the sale? And are there any replacement cars you may be looking for at all? Really love the look of this
