I’ve been trying to find pictures of Q registered vehicles just to see what sort of cars have managed to get through either an SVA or IVA. I could find plenty of kits but not much in the way ‘radically modified’ vehicles. Has anyone got any pics of such cars wearing a Q plate? Q registered 3 wheeler is a kit based on 2CV Is this hot rod a kit or an original conversion? Sierra Cosworth also wears a Q – wonder why?

Sierra Cosworth also wears a Q – wonder why? Probably stolen/recovered. I can't remember why, but they can get issued Q plates when put back on the road.

Don't forget that 'Q' can also be assigned to stolen/recovered too. [edit]Beaten to it by Dan[/edit]
Plus, it was being used on cars long before the SVA/IVA came about, so finding examples that are specifically from an SVA/IVA will be hard to find unless someone knows a specific car that has gone through the inspection process.

The stolen /recovered on a Q is normally where they have removed the VIn & any means of identifiying it. So it ends up on a Q.

Q plates were issued to cars built from parts of indeterminate age or parts from multiple vehicles mostly, quite a few of my old kit cars were Q plated.
It was only really when the hot hatches arrived and loads got crashed and rebuilt or stolen recovered and rebuilt when people started to look down on the Q plate.

For some reason electric milk floats are often Q plated.....told they were built up using the best from a couple of floats resulting in problems with VIN plates and determing an age..

I actually saw a big Ford Ranger on a Q plate today. It looked fairly new and was towing a cattle trailer.

my old Renault 5 Turbo was a Q plate. it was an ex Turbo Cup race car so no way to tell how old it was.
it cost me £25 to get it registered and it was inspected at my lockup. the vin number is my date of birth. (pre sve etc so was very easy then)
