Speechless.
It was inevitable, but it still leaves you speechless when you actually see it happen.

I dunno about scary, pretty impressive really. The dynamics are nothing like what happens in the real world though.

Principles forbid me clicking a Daily Fail link - is this the 120mph Focus crash from the week before last's 5th Gear? That was scary.

Very interesting. But what happens in the same test with the same car at, say 80. Very similar life expectancy i would have thought. If the video is an arguement for not doing 120mph, then I'm not sure it is truely accurate as anything over 60 even in a modern car is likely to kill you, and most people do 80 on motorways and dual carraigeways.

Wow better slow down.... the number of times i have been doing 120 on a motorway and come round a blind corner to be confronted with a brick wall.

Scary...... Luckily it was just a Focus. Imagine the reaction if it had been a mk1 Escort or VW Samba! The scene lovers would have been dropping with coronaries!

I don't see how it's scary. The chances of hitting an immovable object head on at 120mph are probably slim to nil. As for "people do 80mph on the motorways" yes they do, but they're all going in the same direction so impact speeds aren't usually that high.

Yes, that was my thought, you would be unlucky to just hit a concrete block, a motorway bridge etc, most accidents cars bounce about, roll over, go through hedges, along walls etc which slows the car considerably.

There was a accident like that last year near me on the A120, A Ford Focus hit a bridge at high speed and both opponents were killed instantly, It does happen, but it's very rare fortunately.

I find it interesting that this is "news" for the daily mail. They literally just watched the telly. However I will also not be maxing my car out into any 8 foot thick concrete blocks any time soon.

Well, that's won me over. * abandons logic*

high speed collisions can and do happen, and loss of life is usually the result. I think some of it is down to driver mentality and perhaps this will highlight to some of them how their mentality is borked.
I know for a fact that in a high speed collision in my car (and many of the other cars on this site, for that matter) I'll likely lose my legs or my life and if I'm lucky, I'll get away with some broken bones. I drive accordingly, I don't like taking risks. Drivers of modern cars that I've known believe that the safety equipment entitles them to drive more recklessly as they'll be 'okay in a crash' and they're the ones that have me stamping on my brakes and taking evasive action when out and about on the Queen's highways and byways.
