What a load of curse word I'm all for cost cutting and that curse word. But all the info relivent could have been left on the sheet quite easily. Its not helping at all by just supplying "some" info. They may as well supply nothing.

An old MOT was easily forged though. Now you could just ask people to include the MOT reference number with their entry/booking and use it to to check before hand that it was all legit, without people forgetting bits of paper etc on the day. I guess, but... Take the gathering for example, I thought the current system ran very smoothly, presenting docs to the lady in the booth, and I may be wrong but I didnt see a computer there? So getting people to bring ref numbers wont just require some hardware investment but may also lead to ref numbers being entered wrong, time consuming entry etc... All increasing the time people have to wait. And asking for peoples ref numbers before the show is gonna be a massive ball ache to hotwire and his team, whom I'm guessing will all ready be under a lot of stress. It still has all the relevent information, so wont be any different. If a competitor was fiddling before, he'll just find it easier now thats all!!!

of course its going to fool some people. if you sell a car or bike with 12 months MOT and they see that certificate. if they don't know about the new laws they're going to think its a fake.

no change to the fallback testing - you still get the temporary cert as before. These are the only ones still kept in the safe, btw. The old computer printed VT20 was just a receipt same as this new one - the security of the system is in the computerized record and has been for 6 years now.

They may as well supply nothing. It has all the same information on it. The only missing boxes are the seatbelt testing ones and the 'advisory notice issued' box - and the latter only because the advisories are now listed on the same sheet.

As for those not on the internet, you either ask some one or get with the program basically. To be honest, not every person is as enthralled with the internet as the Government wants them to be. And you can see their reasons why. Being forced into using it is not going to make it any better either.

No. The only effect on me is that I can leave the printer on autofeed and don't have to insert 4 different forms by hand when prompted.

I still haven't had the pleasure of issuing one yet. I like that the advisories are there for everyone to see though, should wipe the smiles of a few peoples faces.

The "test number" isn't just a serial number, it's got the date of expiry coded into it along with a checksum - this is how the post office know you are presenting a valid certificate. It's not looking you up on a server anywhere. Also, same system for last 6 years! How often has anyone not been able to tax their car because of a computer fault?

TBH I'm happy for them to get rid of all the paper. It unnecessary. MOT, insurance and road fund is all done on computer so all this paperwork is just a waste of trees.
You can't fiddle what's on the computer. You can forge papers.
It requires people to adapt how they do things but human beings adapt. After all, 10 years ago we all bought our cars from ads in printed newspapers and Autotrader magazine which came out once a week.
You can't expect life to stay the same as it always was because it never does.
This doesn't affect me at all as most the cars I buy have no MOT on them LOL.

Another great idea . What if you don't have the internet? Government fail again. What a suprise. Thats even more work for us though, and less for the government. What was wrong with the old test certificate? They've stopped using one piece of paper and started using another, can't see how it saves anything at all apart from printer ink. These "anti government" posts are getting old very quickly. Who cares what they change, it's their money. Don't know what the problem is, but you're acting like a little kid in a playground. Grow up FFS.

The new certificate actually looks a bit retro to me anywho! I agree, let the government play about with the details and what not. Only bit thats miffed my boss is having to shell out for the paper himself now, that and whatever the new printer refill will cost?!
I personally think having the advisories on the form is genius!

Yeah, tempted to write manual advisories so it says [99999] Vehicle presenter has excessive play in his mouth or [99999] Coil springs complete or [99999] Don't buy this car if only they didn't have someone monitoring what we write

Ok A you ask for the reg and ref number BEFORE going to see the car and check it I wouldn't give out the details if somebody just rang me up. Making clones of cars just got easier. How is giving the V5 number out making it easyer to ring a car ?

So the certificate has gone from being a certificate that proves it has a test, to being a receipt that you need to check? This will have no real effect on anyone capable of discussing the subject on an internet forum
