The Area 52 'Group Build' Cuore also had the headlights breathed on with a dose of black recently. Crosshairs and surrounds, but no fly-eyes. It took a lot of work, but the final result was brilliant, especially in the flesh (photos just don't do them justice)

i did originally paint the area behind my reflectors the same colour as the car and as the reflectors werent affected they were fine.I sometimes have covers over mine. strictly day use only and even with just the side lights on they let good light through. ive put higher power bulbs in too so at dusk the lights work very well too. when its dark the covers come off, simple as that. I did toy with getting some clear covers and putting mirror window film on from the inside so they looked chrome but when the lights were on the light would shine through though, heres with just sidelights on.

I have split my headlights (vento front on a 96 Mk3 golf) and painted all areas that are non reflector.... After that, your best bet is probably going to be getting some lamin-x film and applying that...

I bought some stuff of the bay, it was called flyeyes if I remember right, it definalty reduced light coming out the headlight, but it passed mots no problem, (well he was quite a lenient chap)

Really interested in these, they look great So all these methods are MOT friendly? I fancy a slight tint on the front for a more aggressive look... but not if it means failing the MOT or getting another tug Is it illegal to tint them even though the light comes through ok? That crosshair thing is a new one on me I'll look into that a bit more! Does that alter the actual light pattern? Any pics of lights on with before & after would be great What methods are available then and which will give the best results but still legal? Crosshair Flyeyes Tint Film Tint Spray??

Ive had "black eye" headlights for years on my vectra. They are now on my daily driver and look pretty mean against the black paint: BEFORE: AFTER:

So all these methods are MOT friendly? Well mine passed the MOT last year with the painted surrounds, the crosshais AND the flyeyes. It seems everyone else is just painting the surrounds or fitting flyeyes and no crosshairs, not even a combo of any of the above. I reckon you'll be fine seeing as mine has been given the thumbs up from Mr MOT. It's going in for another 12 month ticket on Monday so I'll let you know how I get on for the 2nd year with them. They are still running 'double murdered' and will be until I decide to do something else...but I can't see that happening in a hurry

I had to reapply some flyeyes to my outer lights after an edge came off when I caught it putting the lights back in once. I decided to have a go at something different. No idea if the pattern messes up the beam but it doesn't seem to and my lights are better than when it was fully covered. It's actually very subtle and in some lights you can't see it at all. excuse the bonnet, I powerwashed it and it ended up like that!

I've got a plan slowly forming for the car, just fancy a different look to the usual Saab one. Wouldn't mind tinting the rears too, something like this... but I think he's sprayed these:

Having seen some of the replies to this thread, I wish I had gone further with tinting the bowls of the golf now....
