Hi everyone!
The time has come to sell my trusty steed because, as of the end of the month, I no longer need it to commute.
Keyfacts:
1993 Peugeot 205 XRDT
164k miles
12mths MOT
tax til end of Nov
Lowered front, springs only
106 Rallye steels - 6Jx14 - Handles like it's on rails
Power steering
Central locking, very occasionally doesn't play ball
Original factory Sunroof, with wind deflector no leaks.
This has the 1.8 XUD turbo engine, which originally came with 80hp (same as a 1.4 petrol) and the same number of torques as a 1.9gti.
I started logging my fuel consumption as soon as I got it and have managed a proven 54mpg over 2 years of varied motoring. It's also fairly peppy when needed.
Issues:
there is a hot start problem where the starter occasionally doesn't turn, I've been informed this is down to some poor electrical connections not allowing enough current to the hot motor. It starts first time every time from cold.
If left for a while (over 2 weeks), it needs the diesel lines priming with the hand pump under the bonnet.
Few oil drops, I keep my eye on the levels.
When I washed it I noticed a small patch of rust bubbling under the paint.
There are quite a few scratches and dings, many paint chips and it's generally a bit scruffy. It would benefit hugely from a set of new bumpers and look ace with red valances. However, I bought this for cheap motoring and haven't been concerned with cosmetics.
Recent work:
I've serviced the car every 5k miles, oil and filter, plus air filter every 3rd service. It had new glow plugs a while back, a new timing belt at 141000, a new nearside driveshaft about 4000 miles ago and new rear cylinders and shoes at the same time.
Advisories at MOT were corroded rear brake lines and front discs. It needed a new front number plate for the MOT. That's all.
Despite the relatively high mileage, I've relied on this car to get me to work every day (80 mile round trip) and have put 35k on it in 2 years. This doesn't smoke, apart from a medium sized puff when starting
I fitted a JVC CD player which is pretty good still and Infinity Reference components which can be removed if not required... There are Sony 13cm in the rear shelf too.
PICS!!!
Rusty bit:
And there's more pics here:

So in summary, a reliable, fairly pokey runaround which could be tarted up a bit or smoked* around in...
Any questions, give me a shout, I genuinely will be sorry to see this go
cheers,
Tony
*it really doesn't smoke that much
