You do know you bought a bonnet from me right???
Anyway, you do nice work! And pretty quick to!
And i have to say, you are very lucky on the the 5 speeds! It took me ages of searcing and a big dose of luck to find a howling one. Which is a little quieter now, but still not the way i would like.

markkp30 of course i did mention in the post that my replacement bonnet is comming from you, just hope it is better condition as i couldnt bare to do this job twice a lack of funds at the moment, means I'm trying to find jobs to do on the cheap. the welding is very time consuming but bloddy satisfying when you get it right. idea is to have two bonnets, one a little lighter for the occasional track time, and one original. so i can swap them as and when. johnny nitro thanks for the comment, its words like this thats keeping my enthusiasm for the project topped up.

Good stuff going on here, you must be putting in the hours!
If you need any info/pics from mine (its all still together at the mo) then just shout.
You are welcome to have a look over it if you want, or i could roll it down to you at some point....I'm in Essex as well near Colchester so presumably not too far from you.

kool offer right there 1mzmk1 might well take you up on that as i need to make some templates for the front at some point (as mentioned before) to get em spot on could use your car as a template. this is likely to get very busy over the next few weeks as I'm all over the south coast collecting parts in a few weeks. i get 2/half days a week off, and most of that is spent on the car. i love spending time on the car. everytime i do. its that little bit closer to being on the road.

to continue off where I left of before: I continued with the bonnet today, and although not getting it finished. I did make some good progress. with it getting darker earlier now, I'm not getting as much done during the day. managed to finish off the welding on the front edge. and also tidy up the underside of the bonnet. this meant removing all the surface rust, prepping it and painting it. this was never meant to be a show winning bonnet. and just to get it straight and usable as a spare was the aim. for that purpose I just covered the underside with satin black. and the bonnet will probably go the same colour. so onto the pics: so this is where we left off tonight, still a lot more prep work to do on the topside, but hopefully i should be able to finish this off on tuesday.

Your doing great work sofar! I just wanted to let you know that the parts are going to the Doctor next sunday. When they will get to the UK is not sure yet, but it's another step closer.
BTW. The bonnet is indeed in better shape than yours!

just a little update, in the form of a delivery I recieved this morning. another ebay purchase: a k engine flywheel, lightened and balanced, the advert stated that it weighs just over 4kg. so lovely and light. and must admit although the photo dosnt show it to well, its a lovely bit of machining. a pure work of art

nice! I loved my (bog standard) 3k with superlight flywheel, they still idle pretty good, but i always loved the way the engine reacts when you switch it off! It just stopped instead of coasting in to a halt

ok so not much of an update, as I'm reomoving this rather than putting it on. you may remember that on the original advert, the car was listed as having a stainless exhaust. so after an hour of oulling, undoing and trying to manipulate it round things, here it is: I'm in two minds as to what to do with this, as although its a straight through with a single silencer, its 1.5inch bore, and will probably be a bit to small for the new motor? heres what i could find about the manufacturer: www.longlife.co.uk/not a lot to go on I'm affraid, but it realy dosnt look to have been on the car for long. id hasard a guess at 500 miles or less?

so, been a few weeks since an update. so for anyone thats following the thread, ill ad one unfortunately this thread dosn't start well. on friday evening i had my wallet stolen on a night out, containing of all things, my debit cards, and driving licence. not a big deal I'm sure you will agree. but when i had a van all booked, and ready to collect sunday morning it now posed a huge problem. with no id, and no way of paying for it i cancelled, and phoned all the people i would be meeting to pass on the bad news. so as not to dampen the spirits i made my way to the station with a friend, for a day of drinks in the city. when my phone rang. another friend had managed to get hold of this for the day: it was meant to be so hurried into the cab of said nivara, a few hasty phonecalls and we headed down to portsmouth to meet three people and collect these: among the parts collected today were, a 1.5 5k engine and head, 3 angle race head, 4 front hubs, 6 inlet manifolds, 2 gearboxes, 2 distributors, 2 carburettas, and of course a rather rust free bootlid. id like to thank everyone who helped today, including the sellers. a huge moral boost for the project i have also been cracking on with the restoration of a few small parts, and will post pics shortly.

Good to meet you today. Hope the bootlid goes to good use - after being stored away for 20 years !
Good luck with the project, will be following with interest.
