Hey there guys and girls... Fully expecting a bit of grief for my car, but hopefully will make a few people smile too, so whatever you think ...let me know. This car has been my baby for 18 years. She has been with me through thick and thin. She has been Tara Green when single carb, then Targa red when converted to Twins. Then only in 2009 she was resprayed in Radiant Red. What a great job they did as well!! ;D...amazing bit of work...If you are reading this mr sprayer you should hang your head in shame. So....this year she has been re-invented as Rat Garfunkel... Not sure how long the rat look will stay, but I kinda like it. My good friend photographer Debbie Phillips recently took a few decent shots of my old girl on the Isle of Wight. see them attached. Me and my son were at Retro Rides gathering 2011 and a few people came up to chat. It was a great day. and soooo diverse. Just how I like it. A great songwriter one said "Everything has been said before, nothing left to say anymore, when it's all the same you can ask for it by name!" well thats so not true of the retro rides crowd. constantly re-inventing the wheel. Long may it continue The National Lampoons vacation Marina... and lastly my beautiful daughter showing just as much respect for the Marina as she deserves. My daughter loves the car and calls it BumBum. Fitting I think!

ha ha. I did.....what do you reckon happened??? Well...A couple of open minded people loved it...(and sincere thanks to them!! Darren / Gary / Debs!) but many people just frowned at me...and spat as they walked past. Frankly my dear...I couldn't give a Damn! I get it, really I do. If you want a restored car then I fully respect that, and I love to see row after row of immaculate cars at a car show.... . I just really dig trying new things. And she's the first (and probably last!!) Rat Marina! This is how she looked in 2009...before the paint reacted!!

I'm surprised to say I actually like this. Though I almost never like Rat look cars, yours looks like it properly grew into its paint! ;D It is a wonderful thing to own a car for as long as you have had your Marina and its many changes stand testament to your enduring interest, but I think you should go back to shiny paint after you've had some fun with it like this. David Edited to add: I love the picture of your daughter siting on the bonnet! It is a superb photo.

At the end of the day its your car and you do what you want to it. And you know what...... you've done a brilliant job. It really looks like its weathered naturally, whilst I love mint show cars etc, its good to see a used and abused style car now and then. I actually got more excited over a cortina which looked like it had been sat in the grass for years and shouldnt have passed an MOT (but it was on the road of course) than a mint ferrari

Must have missed this at the Gathering, but this is a brilliant car - i'd love to see the faces of some of the Marina purists when they clapped eyes on this ;D Just goes to show that Marinas are cool cars and like has been said above the patina looks pretty convincing!

i absolutely love this. Ive wanted to modify and run one of these for a while now just because most people seem to hate them. Yours did look great on the pic in shiny red but i also like what you have done now. Somehow it just works. Great job.

I am not normally a fan of the 'rat' look or stock Marinas either (although I guess yours is not stock). Yours seems to tick all the boxes though for being s cool ride:). Enjoy.

I only took about 10 photos all weekend but this was one car I had to get a shot of - I LOVE the look of it. I'm so glad you've made it more 'race rat' than all out rat. It really suits it with the 70's style livery. One of the most coherent 'faux patina' jobs out there. It's a real shame the guy who sprayed it did it badly because it really does look a beaut all gleaming in red, but I equally like its current guise and it's great to know that you and this car have some real history. Long may it continue.
