ok, very regretably i'm selling my cortina! this was gonna be a keeper for a long time but something un car related has come up so am needing the funds.
as title suggests its a 1979 Cortina 2.0 Ghia. the reason this car was going to be a keeper is basically because its a solid NEVER WELDED example! i'll try to list everything about that car as honestly as I can...
bodywork..
paint isnt the best by a long shot! its been sprayed a slightly different shade of brown (a better one imo!) early on in its past. theres a few flakes, cracks etc if you want to look closely. also theres been some reaction or something at some stage down the two passenger side doors.
in terms of rust as I say its never been welded. according to the paperwork it was waxoiled in '84 and its done its job! also it looks like its had some ali front arch liners from new and theyve helped also. this isnt to say there arent things that need getting on top of ideally soon. one of the rear cill ends would benefit from being sorted and also a small bit of grot on one of the front arches, plus the usual scuttle bubbling. also a few minors dings as to be expected from a 30 odd year old car!
engine...
the 2l pinto is a strong one, and pulls very very well. usual valve stem seal puff of smoke on start up. its has a good 32/36 dgv and also a 4 branch escort manifold, which benefits from bigger primaries than the usual ones. straight through custom 2 1/4" exhaust with single cherry bomb out back. slight blow from me putting it together dry without exhaust paste! manual choke works fine so no problem starting from cold.
drivetrain...
4 speed box is fine. no crunching or noise. same with diff, which is the bigger one in the 2.0 I believe.
suspension...
I bought a full polybush set, of which most have been fitted. rears fully done, along with front anti roll bar mounts, tie rods and tca. to do are wishbone bushes, steering rack plus I bought the front subframe mount polys too, which will need doing for the next mot. also to do I noticed the other day is a split steering rack boot. springs are uprated lowering ones which have had a coil taken off as they werent actually very 'lowering'!!
interior...
pretty good nick for age. only bad bits are split sun damaged tops of rear seats (covered by blanket) and couple small holes in drivers seat.
also is on a set of 13x7j capri pepperpots in beige! ..with a brand spanking set of 165/55 nankangs that just cost me £150!
to add it is without front bumper due to it being dented due to someone reversing in to it. this took the brunt and it did not damage the valance. it can be supplied but is twisted at the end.
I'm pretty sure theres about just over 4 months tax and test left but will check.
I'm not in any rush to sell this, and would rather make sure this goes to a good home as these are fast disappearing due to a 'certain lot'
i'm prob not going to be on here untill monday, but will add more pics then. in the mean time, I will be at the gathering on sunday so your more than welcome to have a look at it there!
basically it may not be mint, but its a solid, pretty much sorted cortina...
