Morning from Newcastle, Australia ladies and gents!
Been lurking around here for ages and decided to sign up finally and show off my car/get involved in this great community!
I've owned a few retro-ish cars over the years (1986 Suzuki Gti, 1990 Honda Prelude) but my first major project was my Toyota Corolla ae71, which I used in drift and hillclimb events:
(face of concentration for sure)
Ended up with a 4age, locked diff and some tasty suspension mods but eventually due to rust and the reluctance of the efi engine to work properly I sold it off to be a donor for someone else's project.
Time went past, bought a house with a shed and decided it was time to buy another car. As mentioned elsewhere on the forum cars are much dearer in Australia, so things like ae86's and Escorts were far out of reach. I was on the look out for a Holden Gemini (Opel Kadett) when this popped up:
A firebreathing, ball tearing 125hp ca18de Silvia, in all it's dented, faded, farty mufflered glory. $4300 later and it was parked in front of my house. First things first, lets lose those wheels for something more retro:
Set of 15x6's from a Mitsibushi Sigma GSR. They need a refurb but they were cheap! During this time I also replaced the brake master to cure the lack of braking, and replaced the Skyline driver seat with a red Bride, turfed the butchered factory shifter for an aftermarket short shifter and fitted a deep dish steering wheel that was kindly donated by a friend (no photos unfortunately)
So then onto the machines real purpose: to be ragged up hillclimb tracks, around circuits and probably on a drift day or 5. First event is tomorrow in a local hillclimb, so stickers on, fit fire extinguisher and a little bit of polish:
And we are ready! So the weather is looking wet and miserable for tomorrow so I'm hoping I don't meet the armco.....
I realise that it isn't the most retro thing ever (although it is 20 years old) but I am hoping my retro inspired build plans will make up for it.
Thanks for looking!
