History:
This Caddy spent most of it life as a trusted farmers Truck for 15+ years, in and around Saltash, in 2009 Karl Blyth, of ‘Karl’s Body shop’ www.karlsbodyshop.co.uk (Landulph near Saltash) purchased her and set to work on a vision he’d had for quite some time (years) prior to purchase.
The build:

Suspension:
Prior to any body work modification it was essential to get the ride height sorted; this required a commonly performed rear axel flip, which had dropped it by 4½” (117mm) plus a further 2” (51mm) via custom lowering block [Total 6½” (168mm)] giving the desired effect, as for the front a set of ‘Race Land Coil-Overs’ allowed for easy adjustment. Karl had a clear vision of what he was after and set about searching for the ultimate wheels for this project and settled on a set of 16x9 BORBET A’s.
Wheels and Tyres:
Diameter: 16”
Width: 9”
Make: BORBET A’s
Tyres: Front = 205/40/16 Rear = 205/45/16
Black centres with polished deep dish rim…..
Body Work:
Arches are hand built, cutting out the original arch lip, then creating a frame; to attach the hand fabricated metal sheeting. Once welded in to place the arches were sealed and smoothed.
In the rear the bed of the caddy was in very good condition so required minimal work, rubbed back and re-sprayed and then fitted with a very sturdy ‘Van Vault’ bolted to the rear floor.
Rear tail gate had the opening handle mechanism removed, a patch welded over and smoothed, and has been replaced with flush fitting ‘Aero-Caps’, these have been cleverly integrated to lock in to the large single sheet of ‘Checker Plate’, used to add security and finish off the look of the rear.
A frame was built and then hinged to the rear (nearest the cab), with the checker plate bolted to it using high quality Allen-Key bolts.
Once the body work was all rubbed back and any imperfection rectified, in to the spray booth she went, where Karl worked his magic. Karl spent over 280 hours on the body work, prep and paint, (not including interior, suspension and wheels).
Bumpers and spoiler:
Next was the redesign of the bumpers, hand made ‘one off’ bumpers front and rear, which maintain an original feel, but much stronger.
To the front of the Caddy she is fitted with a deep front spoiler.
Lights and Grill:
In the past week I have changed the grill from a MK1 GTi grill with twin headlights and badge, to a single headlight badge-less aftermarket grill and full length ‘eyebrow’ (unfortunately the eyebrow came off in transit).
I have also fitted a pair of MK2 Golf, Crystal clear headlights with crosshair and blue tip bulbs.
Side repeaters have been tinted and the front repeaters have been replaced with some used genuine MK1 Golf Cabriolet clear lenses.
Decals:
She has been fitted with a chess board type strip up the bonnet, over the roof and down the rear tailgate in ‘Red wine Vinyl’. In addition to this Karl added a thin ‘Red wine Vinyl’ strip to the side of the body to finish it off.
The Decals were professionally designed, made and fitted by Mr-Sticker in Saltash, Cornwall

Interior:
The interior is essentially standard, with the exception of an aftermarket MP3 stereo, introduction of a 12v cigarette lighter socket, a ‘Momo Corse’ leather steering Wheel and most importantly the gorgeous ‘Honda S2000’ Red Leather seats, professionally fitted, on runners.
Engine & Gearbox:
Standard 1.6 Diesel, fully serviced, with new filters (oil, air, fuel), belts, plugs etc, no plans as yet to change it.
5 Speed gearbox.
I hope that you enjoy looking at this car and please feel free to ask any questions.
Cheers
Mark
