Well, just been and picked up this rare little gem, 1984 1.3 Austin Maestro van. When was the last time you saw one of these then ?? Genuine ONE owner from new, and laid up for 18months after the old boy retired. There's a bit of wag in the rear arches, but generally it 's not too bad underneath. A+ 1.3 under the bonnet, and plenty of room for something bigger, should the mood take According to 'how many left' the answer is 6 !

Yours is mighty tidy too!

Passed a white one on my way home this very evening! I actually thought 'there can't be many of those left now'. Wasn't a patch on yours though.
Withought a doubt - definately more than 6 left though!

That's a good find and in the best colour for them. I have a secret liking for beige.

Withought a doubt - definately more than 6 left though! Joe My thoughts exactly! Not many but definately more than 6. It grows on me a little more everytime I see it. And I used to hate Maestros

I dislike Maestros due to owning a 2.0i MG in the past, but I LOVE that!

I keep trying to win them on eBay since my dad had a few IIRC the PCD was the same as my 800 so dad borrowed my 17s and it looked pretty good. Forget VW derv engine had to be a T series transplant, unless you want derv then Rover did happen to have a couple of good engines in there stable, dad converted his to Montego TD power personally think I'd have chosen the newer 220SDI engine but back then 220SDI was still loads of money

Finally got chance to look round the old girl properly and take it for an MOT. After freeing off the rear brakes and doing a quick bodge on the rear bump stop bracket, i took it for the moment of truth. Looking round on the ramp, it's actually structually very sound, it's just a bit 'frilly' round the edges, but it'll make a good rolling restoration. Anyhoo, she failed Drivers side treadplate has corroded and handbrake is doing sod all ! It looks as though the door seal has been holding water causing the corrosion, but a fairly straight forwards repair so not too bad; Inside the sill is in eally good condition, and very encuraging for the rest of the van; A little fabrication and buzz buzz; Just requires a little seam sealer and paint. Happy days ;D

Sooooooo, Mostly just been using the old gal as works run about, but now with the added sportiness of a pair of MG Metro seats fitted up front. They've made a huge difference to comfort levels. Also had the signwork done Blower fan packed up just before christmas for the heater, so some drastic surgery was required; Not the easiest job by any means, but it now means I have a 3 speed heater that works Also fitted a little more modern ICE (no pics) and started aquiring parts for some restoraion work. This included buying a pair of used front wings, one new front wing, and good rear door (complete with handle which is usually broken) and a spare engine. The rear wings will be coing in for some sugery later on, but for now, I'm rebuilding the spare engine, as I've already put 3 gallons of oil through the engine that's in. Burnt, not leaked So, stripped down spare engine, and discovered it all to be standard, and in fairly good condition. Cylinder wear is about 0.001-0.0015", so no worries there and absolutely no measurable wear on the crank. Parts ordered, everything washed, and a lick of paint to brighten it up; (I'm sorry Mr Hamerite, I don't care what it says on the tin. - THAT is not gold!!) A steady reassembly will not ensue (I'm just recovering from a Carpal Tunnel operation) and looking to get the new motor in place in a couple of months. Then we can really attack the body
