Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with buying retro stuff from Japan? As Starlet stuff, or retro toymota stuff in general does seem to come up on yahoo, but I have no idea on how to buy it & import back over here. Can anyone point me in the right direction or help me at all? Many thanks GW

I'd love something that clean with a 4k-e, but it's never going to happen! Thinking really in case I manage to find an LSD for one of my starlets, or a nice set of wheels that I can't get over here. Thanks for your help people

Do you know how it works onecam? There's some good cars on there!

What year had the X code axel? I've got an 84 drop tailgate (mk3) that originally came with a 2k engine & an 80 non drop tailgate square headlight (mk2) that's a 3k. Will they both be U code? I haven't measured either as yet

Some cars are very very cheap. i missed out on a rwd carina GTR it went for equvelant of 340 euro if you put a bid price in the box over to the right hand side, it will calculate the shipping and handling for you in the bottom box. but note this is noly idirects fees, you still need to pay vat etc when it lands. you can either pay CIF - COST-INSURANCE-FRIEGHT or FOB- FREE ON BOARD which means you organise the shipping yourself- not recommended the hassle. also i wouldnt go by the averages, means sweet FA

I haven't measured either as yet Non-drops had X-code centres in them, even the J model S spec I pulled some parts off had the X-code centre, as has my J spec XL, and all the ones that came to NZ. All of the KP60/62/61 drop hatches I've had anything to do with have had U-code centres, but that said, they've all been KP61's so I couldn't comment on a KP60. X code is a 5.6" centre, where a U code is a 6". You can fit U-code internals into an X-code diff housing too.... I've got one underway atm to go into mine. Nice Si there onecam8ohv, a good friend of mine back in Christchurch has one in a red/black Panda colour scheme from factory.

Can I asked the breakdown of your Starlet costs if you don't mind? eg. car price, shipping, handling, taxes etc. You can PM me if you'd prefer not to post it here.

I must say, i'd be very interested to know more about that too. Finally we have someone who has cracked the code to the holy grail - getting these old J-clunkers on their driveway!

well everyone was taking the talk about importing this and that, i got curse word off listening to them so got on a bought some went into it like a blind gunea pig, as no one i knew had done it but it worked out well! rmad... best thing is, send me your email and il scan all my documents for you goldenwonder... you 1980 starlet will have an X code rear. best thing to do is swap over the whole axle, you'll just run into problems trying to swap axles and diffs into other housings etc. take not also an X code prop shaft is an inch longer because the Xcode diff head is shorter than the U code one. i have digi pics here of the conversion
