I said I'd never do this, but here I am...doing it.
Model: Mk2 Ford Zodiac Low-line
Year: 1961
Mileage: 75000
Tax: nil
MOT: nil
Location: Berkeley, Gloucestershire
Price: £2000
I can't keep it. I don't have the space to keep it, the money to run it or the time to work on it and in my heart of hearts I know that's not going to change. It's not fair to the car to leave her out rotting, she's too damn good for that.
I don't want any smart- comments. I know I said I'd always keep her, and I meant that. I'm not going to keep her if that means she rots into the ground though - that's not right.
She's a '61 Low-line Mk2 Zodiac in 'class 2' condition. Underneath she's solid, as a great many members of RR including MysterMachine and BratMan will testify. Chassis rails, inner wings, sills, boot floor, spring hangers - they're all good.
Externally it's a different story. The bonnet is a mass of glass and filler, the doors will want re-skimming and the rear arches have plenty of filler to shout about. There's signs of rust coming through in places too.
It's all bolt-on stuff apart from the arches, though they could be repaired by someone half-competent with ease. You'd need to mess with the doors too as the windows, well, they do what they want.
The driver's door doesn't lock, the passenger door locks too well.
The interior is there. The door-cards are scrap but the seats have plenty of life left in them. I've taken the cover off the front seats for now, but I still have it. It's currently exposed vinyl and duck-tape.
Speedo/wipers/temp/fuel/indicator arrows all work on the dash.
Plate, TSY 101 is non-transferable.
Wheels and tyres. They're Northants Tyres 14x6 Chrome Smoothies with 195 whitewalls, plenty of life in the tyres.
Engine: 2553cc straight-6 from a mk3 so it should be 104bhp (pah!). Had a new clutch last year so loads of life in that.
Runs like a dream, starts on the button, pulls well, had an oil and coolant change last year. Also sounds amazing thanks to the Essex Racing Classic stainless manifold-back system consisting of custom pipe-work and mid-section suspended by mustang hangers.
Gearbox: Colunm-change three-speed manual. Takes some getting used to. Makes you feel like a king once you master it. Slave cylinder is on its way out though, so the occasional pump of the clutch is needed.
Overview: It was on the road last year and I wasn;t shy about driving it. It NEVER let me down (once the dizzy was fixed, thanks Grunty). I drove it from Bristol to Kent and back numerous time with no issue and a steady cruising speed of 60mph. I even drive it through London in the height of Xmas traffic to drop off some pretty girls and a Dbizzle to their party. Again, no complaints.
If you buy it you'll be able to MOT it pretty easily and enjoy it as a rolling restoration, as was my plan. Her heart is strong and there are many more years left in her, just not with me so it would seem.
£2000. No offers. I'd get more on eBay but I can't be arsed with eBay and the knuckle-draggers it encourages. No daft comments either. I'm going to cry when this sells, no word of a lie.
PM me if you're interested.
