Little update, The first patch of welding is all under sealed up now which looks nice. Here is a pic of the finished work I'm very happy with that and the new oil cooler is on now with all new hoses so I was able to run her up to temperature which went well (I'd forgotten how well she pulls!) exciting to drive again! The plan today was gonna be to cut out the next bit of rust and get that welded up ready for the MOT but after my little drive (on private land of course) the brakes failed completely and suddenly . There are no leaks anywhere so it must be the master cylinder again! this put me on a bit of a downer so all I got done was taking the interior out to get at this rust. So I'm on the lookout for a new brake master cylinder. I'm not going second hand again as that was just a waste of time and money and I can't afford UK prices so I'm gonna see if I can get something over from the US! God knows when it's gonna get an MOT now I can't work on it till next Thursday night now cause I have an exam on Thursday which I need to revise for. Just as long as it's done for Wonderland I'll be happy even if it ends up being the maiden voyage

That rear arch repair is MUCH neater than most I've seen on Supras in that area!

Thanks, it's not an easy spot to weld in, particularly where it curls up into the strut top. Phil had to squish his head, the mask, both hands and the welder into that tiny space next to the spring lol A little pic of how the car is sat at the mo now all the wheels and centercaps are fitted

Love the car, it looks fantastic!
On the brakes though... Could you use something similar rather than a proper supra part? Obviously it'd need a bit of fettling, but it could save a bit of cash.

Thank you I have no idea if I could use another part, it's got a mahoosive compensator valve thing and ABS to contend with so I dunno that it would be that simple, possibly worth looking into though if a newer Toyota or Lexus has a similar set up the parts could be cheaper. I've found someone who may have one that has already been rebuilt, he is gonna have a look tomorrow so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that

I had a productive day today I finished bolting the front wing up properly so it doesn't fall off on any motorway journeys, bolted the arch liner back in, changed the oil and put the rest of the interior back in where I'd fell out with the steering column cowling! Woo! now all there is left to do before MOT time is finish the welding which will get all done tomorrow and fix my brakes!. Someone from the Supra club is sending me another master cylinder which should hopefully turn up on Wednesday or Thursday, it can get fitted the next day and if that fixes it, MOT will be Friday If that doesn't fix it then I'm gonna head over to the local scrappie as he has a Supra in and see if swapping the box on the right of the engine bay does anything to help, not sure if it's something to do with the ABS or if it's a compensator valve.

Is there any chance you might change your mind on the rally look of the car in the end?
It looks absolutely fantastic right now, with a little spacing of the rear wheels, and a healthy reduction in altitude it would look absolutely epic. Especially if the front headlights got the lazy eye treatment.

Tigran, i must confess to thinking exactly the same thing! I'm loving how it looks and the money i would spend on stickers would easily get me some decent hubcentric spacers. I was thinking of another 5mm lower and it would be ace.
I think I'm gonna leave it as it is for a couple of shows and see how I feel when I have a bit more cash at my disposal, then if I do sticker it I'll pick another design as all the red would need to be painted on so there would be no going back!

i take my hat off to you, cant belive all the stuff you have done, I'm new to the supra ownership i hope i haven't taken on more than i can chew (or pockets allow)
p.s. did you get new or second hand dark body mouldings, if new how much ?, as i want to swop my white for black,
will keep coming back to see how your doing

I got second hand, I don't know if you can buy them new. I took them off the donor I got for the gearbox change. If you have any questions just give me a shout, I don't know if you have found it yet but there is a wealth of information available on mkiiisupra.net, probably a breaker on there with some dart trims too. I don't think you have taken on more than you can chew, I must admit my urge to tinker with it has meant I have done a lot of stuff that I could have left and in all honesty I bought a neglected car Anyway good luck with it, enjoy it and let me know if you start a thread

Back to welding yesterday! The pin hole at the top of the strut has been filled with weld and etch primed, the second hole going into the passenger compartment has been cut out and neatened off ready for a patch. No pics yet but we will be finishing it off tonight thankfully this new hole is only about the third of the size of the first one although there was about 5 layers of metal! And the car set on fire! Damn horse hair. Didn't notice it till it actually went up in flame either... no damage done though just gonna have a little less sound deadening under the rear seat. I didn't want to risk it re-igniting after I put it out so it's gone.

Haha, been there, done that. It's quite worrying the first time you see smoke and flames appear from a car you love!

Got the patches made last night, two little ones, same theory as last time to remake the seam rather than just patching over it. I got some pics but I was not allowed to put them on here again lol! I'll try again tonight once the patches are welded in I have also decided against the rally look now, my OH has done his SD1 in a rally theme already and the supra is looking just too damn fine ever though she's filthy! The roll cage, side exit exhaust, battery relocation and fuel cell are still on the cards but it'll all be a lot more subtle. Really looking forward to spending an entire day with hot soapy water, a clay bar, polish and wax..... I'll need new arms but it'll be worth it

I have a couple of pics now All the welding is done now but I only have pics of pre welding lol. Phil managed to get a welding spark right inside his ear doing this it's still hurting him! I have painted it all now and just need to slap a bit of underseal over it. More pics later. I bought a load of wet n dry, and paint to do the outer arch with where the paint faled off so that will get done in the next day or so. Another master cylinder will be fitted tomorrow so I can drive to an MOT station finally! And for when it's been really good and passed I have bought tar remover a clay bar kit and some really expensive wax to make her gleam again!

Got them piccies today. Here is the second patch all finished, phil didn't want to grind it down because he was in pain at the time so I just under-sealed it anyway and today I spent all day refitting the interior! This concludes the leaky boot for now until the other side gets done at the end of the show season. but it's MOT worthy now so all good still just waiting on a master cylinder! Gonna get cleaning tomorrow seeing as it's supposed to be good weather

Thanks mate, it would be nice if they start appreciating in value but I reckon it's still a good few years away Little update.... I thought I would repaint the rear wing today where I had a little bubble in the paint. once I flaked it off it turned out only to be on the surface, not a hole so I set to rubbing it down for paint. Needed to get a nice smooth surface so you can't see where it was. I did this with 240 grit wet n dry followed by 800 grit. Masking up was sponsored by Tesco primer, then flat back with some 2000 grit wet n dry A few coats of paint later, it should have been done but I messed up and went too slow now I have to leave it to harden before I can flat it back again and keep painting! With any luck the forecast will be wrong and it will be good weather! grrr. Oh well I got all the interior hoovered and polished out after I put it all back in yesterday so at least it's starting to look the part! Took all the stickers off too including Betty so I can clean clay bar and wax properly, don't worry she will be making a comeback

Thanks, I will try to go lighter and just do more coats today. I got a bit impatient I think thankfully it's not raining so I'm gonna go give it a try! 7miles on a push bike to get there first though!

I`ve been contemplating attempting to teach myself how to weld, via google/other forum members, is it simple enough to pick up or am I better off leaving it to the pro`s? After some research it looks like mig welding is more suited for motor vehicle applications, plus a bit simpler to apply. True?
