having bought this on thursday evening i've started getting a few jobs done, not sure who saw the ad but this is how it looked its not been cared for recently showing most on the drive home with the car getting VERY hot if it was taken over 50 mph and getting a bit smokey too!! brakes are shot with wafer thin discs and the front suspension i'm sure isnt actually connected anymore, BUT it is a project (and daily driver) so the hunt for parts has begun. firstly i've replaced the passenger door handle, got a new steering cowling, bonnet release and cable along with the ignition loom for £30 all in!! next were wheels as all of the tyres were shot so a quick look on ebay and £80 later complete with toyo tyres these were fitted Big thabnks to my friend martin who on friday called in a big favour and took the old girl for a clean, 40 litres of brown sludge, razor blades to all windows and a hard 4 hours work its like a different car inside, even a quick wash has transformed it this afternoon i'm off to collect a fully refurbished cylinder head with a lairy cam and some porting work done (never been re fitted to a car since being done) for £51 and am now collecting all the relevent bits to put it on. there are more pictures to come (when my phone works again) of the engine bay complete with original mint battery tray and wing tops!!

I like this but forgive my ignorance of things Ford, but what was the difference between this and the Escort of the era?

this was a saloon ;D thats about it. I don't know if they're exactly the same as the escorts of that era but if you look at the history of ford in 1993/4 I think the orion badge was dropped and the escort saloon was born.
So in theory this is just an escort saloon.

I like this but forgive my ignorance of things Ford, but what was the difference between this and the Escort of the era? The boot! Orion is a 4-door saloon, Escorts were 3-door hatch and estate, and 5-door hatch and Estate. I think Ford aimed the Onion a little more upmarket too. A Ghia Injection is basically an XR3i with an extra few inches of metal on the back.

Like what you've done so far, looks like a nice little project When I saw this it reminded me of one I got given for free!! It was black and was about 8 years ago, it belonged to my ex mother in law, it had 36,000 miles and it was mint, when I say mint I mean MINT! She always kept it garaged, (no cracked dash!) and only used it to pootle to the shops and back, but back then I was into my MK1 Golfs, so I tried to sell it, but I got no intrest at all, I ended up selling to some bloke down the road for £150!!! Wish I'd kept it!

I like this but forgive my ignorance of things Ford, but what was the difference between this and the Escort of the era? it was also sort of an unofficial stop-gap model for the saloon brigade who mourned the passing of the Cortina and didnt like the idea of a hatch(ie Sierra),but has been said earlier was aimed a bit more upmarket especially the Ghia Inj I'd always wanted an Orion Ghia Inj due to it having a lot higher standard equipment over the equivalent XR3i such as E/W's,C/L,E/M's and the thing that did it for me was the footwell lights!! anyway beautiful car with a lot of potential

I haven't seen one of these for years. You have done wonders in the interior. They're quite a luxurious car, the Ghia.

Amazing what a clean and new wheels will do funny, I haven't seen one of these for yonks and I looked up at something making a nice noise this afternoon, and it was an Orion, almost the same as this, and then I come home and see yours! Looks to be a good base as well, shame about the engine........ Zetec
