Right, well then. This is a project I've been thinking about for a while now, but I've only just got around to do anything about it.
What I have, is a cheapy plastic Ford Expedition model, all snap together and its been sitting around for a good number of years. Its got fixed axles, no steering what-so-ever and as far as I can see, no practical use.
So it clearly needs its own power.
Starts off like this:
Nasty stickers have been half attempted to be scraped off at some point, they'll be properly removed in time.
You can see its got an interior, this is getting removed, although if things can be properly hidden, the front seats may be put back.
Stripped down:
As shown it has a 'model' like chassis, which is useless for motorisation. So that was put aside and a new chassis was cut out of 5mm Lexan.
Yes Lexan. The stuff they use for anti-shatter windows, should be strong enough! This is all being made out of things I have lying around, the only exception being the M3 bolts. Using as little gluey stuff as I possibley can, although epoxy will come into play I will be using it sparingly.
I've no idea where the motor or gears are from, just stuff I've collected. I've got an old floppy disk drive, the part of a cassette player where you put the tape and the associated gears behind. Plenty more of things like that that I've got boxed up.
You'll notice its not all quite aligned, the motor mounting is not attached and needs a bit shaving off the bottom which is throwing the middle gear out. Also shown is the original rear axle, now with a small gear which will be run against the middle gear (Lexan has a slot for the middle gear) and there will be some axle mounts made. Lots to do, hopefully more tomorrow. Of course these pieces are just rough at the moment, they will be shaped up alot cleaner, the motor mount especially needs the back radius'ing so as not to foul the shell.
