I'm surprised at the amount of rust! Are repair panels available for these?
A lot of people find that with a Phase 2 Yaris, I find that the Phase 1's are a bit more retro (I really wish it were acceptable for me to put a thread up on here with mine, is 2001 a bit too recent? There are 2000 cars on here...)

Grabbed an hour tonight so did a little... Cleaned up the area a touch, waiting for my rust neutraliser to arrive from Bilt-Hamer so i can start welding. Bit more rust I suggest everyone gets one of these, Evolution Cyclone swarf collector. Picks up all the curse word that gets everywhere... First little plate made up, first of many the way this cars going! Oh, lastly, she's not moved in 4 years, a few checks, a charged battery and she fired straight up! Bit lumpy on the old fuel, but she runs That is all...

I'm just checking up on this thread as i've found one on a driveway about 150yds from my house. I'm tempted to knock on the door and see what's happening with it as it has been off the road for 4 years, but the rust pics are putting me off slightly.

They rust like hell Matt, this ones a uk model so should of been undersealed as well.
'Luckily' none of it has spread to the subframe mounts on this one, but apparently thats common and thats whats killed most of them..
Saying that, go have a look., even a dead one can yeild lots of parts to sell on, if you can get it for under £700 you should make your money back!

Righto, First time out with my new welder, so excuse some of the randomness of my welding, just getting to grips with inverter technology... So this is the hole we started with Not ideal! I decided to add a strengthning bar as this carries the floorpan and the rear subframe, just a bit of 20x20x3 bar taken from tunnel to sill with a lil bit sticking out to one of the subframe mounts. This also helps me get an edge to weld to as its double skinned and will eventually need yet another plate on the underside. Starting to get the wire speed and pulse modulation dialled in Then I got really stuck in and took no more photo's till i'd finished. I'm not gonna dress down the welds as its all under the carpets and the steel is the thinest i've ever had to weld, I can see why the thing weighs so little now!!! So, thats 1 half of the passenger side floorpan done. I shall do the same on the drivers side, then i'll have to suss a way of getting her on her side as I don't fancy the amount of welding I have to do lying on my back!

How long till its on the road? Feck knows, that was a good 5 hours work, the steels that thin i'm forever chasing holes!
* - Got the same to do on the drivers side (actually slightly bigger) * - The passenger side sill needs a fettle to its underside * - The drivers side sill needs the whole back edge recreating * - Both rear inner arches need sorting where they meet the sills * - both rear chassis rails need patching * - All 4 arches look pretty fecked, so i'm thinking of cutting them back and wide arching her * - Master Cylinder/Servo leaks, but i scored a replacement for a quid!!!
Think thats about covered it!!!
Then when she does have an mot:
* - Respray in Nato Green, Matt blick roof * - Drop that curse word to the floor * - Sort out some banded steelies or appropriate allys to fit whatever arches i fit to her! * - Remove most of the exhaust and replace with straight tube
Drive eventually!

The exhaust fell off mine just before the silencer and I just ran it like that for probably a month or two. Sound awesome in a slightly farty way and not as loud as you may think.
