Are these getting a following of any kind yet?
I will soon have to dispose of a M-reg 3 door that is currently in the family - it's lived in a garage for the past 10+ years and only been driven once a week or so, mileage is about 30k - has the odd scratch and rust bubble but it is still very clean for a 16 year old car.
It's a 1300 kent engined jobbie, fairly boggo spec - if it was a mk1 or 2 in a similar condition I'm sure there'd be interest - not sure about mk3's yet? It would just seem a bit of a shame for it to be sold for peanuts and ragged into the ground but I have no space/motivation for doing anything with it myself really - thoughts?

Wifey had several back in the 90's when they were current. Great little dailies, but like so many Fords the dreaded tin-worm's seen off so many. They HAVE started appearing at classic car shows though. Here's proof. How clean? And of course we've got our own modded Mk3 in the RR ranks: I've often thought how great a poverty-spec 3dr would look in Ermine White, slammed and rocking some Lotus steels and chrome hubcaps. Add a broad sports stripe down the bottom of the doors a la the prototype Escort Twin Cams of late 1967 and I reckon you'd be onto a winner. Especially if you grafted later Fiesta running gear under the bonnet with a 1700 Zetec-S VCT lump out of a Puma.....

Nothing to add, but they are really great little cars, totally bombproof, I've had a few as runarounds and they just will not give up no matter what you throw at them ;D

Thanks for the replies - it's not going quite yet, but the parents are shopping for a replacement at present, I will bear in mind offers of interest when the time comes!
The colour is a sort of dark-ish magenta for whoever asked, the only non-boggo thing about it is PAS, the windows are manual winders & no sunroof! It's just had a couple of bushes done at the front & a fresh MOT as well.

those two are CLEAN there getting really thin on the ground, even the rs/xr2 models are few and far between these days they were one of the last cars that came in true povo spec, like no cassette player, clock, glovebox door, or even passenger mirror on some models My mum had a povo spec L reg 3 door 1.1i in that red was a single point injection, one of the first I think, don't remember ever seeing another of that age with fuel injection, used to have running issues every so often as it only ever got used round town and the egr got coked up (from what I remember), It did have a passengers mirror, but little else as standard, not even a glovebox door (or passengers sunvisor iirc) They do love to rust though, sister had a H reg one too (in that red as well.. must have been popular or something ) I remember replacing both sills and the outer 6" of the floor to get through a test.. plus the rear arches round the filler cap etc, ironically it replaced a similarly aged mk2 that she crashed which was in far better condition

Blimey, I used to try and get top speed out of mine in 1st from cold on a pretty regular basis, went offroading it it, crashed it into stuff, went full bore through 2-3ft+ of flood water over and over, launched it off bridges into ditches, couldn't kill it! Brilliant car ;D Would've given Top Gears Hi-Lux a run for it's money!

Well to be fair I did pretty much most of those things, but mainly it did short journeys as quick as possible, used to get absolutely ragged everywhere lol when I look back on the things I did and the way I drove it, it's only by God's grace I didn't write it off or have a seriously big shunt in it

Great cars but the fell out of the market on them years ago sadly, just too many out there. It seemed to happen overnight as well, one minute they were £2000 cars then the next they were £200 cars, don't forget its effectively the same car as a mk5 fiesta and that ran until 2002 so an overall basic product run of touching 13 years. Have a look over on passionford to see how to resto a nice mk3 rs turbo etc, some beauties on there. A chap called luca has an 11 second 1/4 one thats still in concourse condition.
