The A9X was built to win races. It achieved this by taking out the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1978 and 1979. It was the Sandown 500 winner in 1977, 1978 and 1979, and Bathurst 1000 winner in 1978 and 1979. No one will forget the last win at Mount Panorama in 1979 when Peter Brock and Jim Richards drove the car to a crushing six-lap victory, with Peter Brock claiming a new lap record on the final lap. The A9X was dominant and claimed the first 8 finishing positions that year. The A9X Torana went on to become the most successful Australian Touring Car ever to be released by G.M.H. Its achievements, in particular the 1978 year, have been unmatched or equaled by any other Australian Motor Car. By the end of 1979, the A9X Torana became unbeatable on the Touring Car scene. It created history as the first truly homologated design car built purposely for motor racing, and was by far the most successful. listen to that V8 my all time dream machine they only made 33 hatchbacks The race where he won by six laps thats unheard of these days RIP Brocky

The A9X was beaten in its maiden year at Bathurst, beaten by the Ford falcons in 1977 1 2, which is the most memorable finish in bathurst history, finishing side by side a mate i knew had a SLR5000 Bathurst model in lettace green, A9X option was built in hatchbacks and saloons, anyhow Brocky is undoubtedly a legend and his commodore was at FOS last year long with Moffats Falcon which won in 1977, which is also a XBGT with a XC front to make it look like the new model when it raced. oh yeah someone stuffed brocky's commodore into the hay bales :S anyhow have some pics. BTW this was when real racing existed and the public could buy what they raced around the track, win on Sunday sell on Monday. The best buy undoubtedly was the phase 3 falc, XYGTHO's where sold to the public for aorund $5500 in 1971. Ford made a loss on every one sold (it didn't matter, they were racing and winning) 300 were made for, and at least one has changed hands for over a mil, and BTW it didn't have any race history Moffats Brocky's Commodore
