With reference to part no. 18 on the diagram that this link brings up..... www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/vw/PO/1983/9/53/148485/can anyone summarise/clarify what the notes about white/brown paint marks mean? I'm a bit confused (particularly with the note for 861511115D 951). Does they mean: - standard springs have a brown paint mark
- G40 springs have a brown & white paint mark
- Diesel springs have a white paint mark

to be fair i don't think theres anything specific. Ive had em with white marks, Green (quite often) , blue and red...
And as i cant see the diagram, What exactly are you trying to find this out for?

from having had to get a new spring after snapping one on my Octavia, VAG code thier srings with dots of paint so it would make sense that the G40, Diesel and normal springs are different spring rates so would be separately marked as you suggest.

Yeah....it is a bit of a pain that you need to be registered to view the screens...
I was just curious as am looking for a pair of springs and trying to find out what range of models I could search within and came across the notes and wasn't sure if I was reading them correctly
