...to collect a car that I'm borrowing, namely a really rather beautiful mk1 Escort 1300XL. It's lush and I'm very much looking forward to putting near to 1000 miles on its clock over the next few days, it should be a joy.
Now a lot of you will know what Ford's heritage centre is all about: keeping cool old Fords alive and in the motoring press. They have over 100 iconic cars hiding down there like these...
...and these...
...but they're not just about the cars, they also have all kinds of little gems lying about that may be of interest.
How about an original prototype model for the mkIV Zephyr?
Or original press images from the mk2 Transit camper range?
They also had this awesome colour selecting device for the mk2 Consul/Zephyr/Zodiac - there can't be many of these left now! It works via three clear sheets with outlines of the cars on them which can be overlaid on two further coloured sheets of card. There are numerous sheets though, offering the potential buyer the chance to see their proposed colour scheme before paint touches panel - a 1950s Photoshop if you will!
Feel like you need a bit of 'down time' after all that? You best have a play on the train-set then...
...okay, so the last bit wasn't Ford related but it was good fun!
I love that place, I really do. There are thousands of things down there, things that will be sorted through and chronicled accordingly such as original wax paper drawings, panels, ledgers, paperwork and other such things - fascinating stuff!
A bit of a random post, but I thought I'd share my findings!
