I found this picture the other day via Mid 70's Portland Car Show | Flickr - Photo Sharing! but can't for the life of me find any other pictures or information on it at all. Mid 70's Portland Car ShowIt looks mid-mounted and I reckon it could be VW kit based judging by the Nova style lift up roof. Anyone got any ideas as to what it is? I've tried Googling "Indy Coupe" with various connotations but I just keep drawing a blank. I'm intrigued by it and would love to know more.

6stud wheels don't seem very Beetle-ish.
Also if you look at the cars in the background, they're all rods and customs. Could this be one too?

I'd say full custom on a formula racer. v8 with ud headers for the high profile exhausts, and flat glass for the screens - as anything bent has always been $$$$s
Want.

Playboy girl with that look where she just knows how much she's been upstaged by a car.
What a car! Would love to see more, have searched as well but to no avail. Awesome looking machine.

Not sure how the wheels are fastened on, the 6 stud ones are pin drive and there doesn't appear to be a centre nut. They're usually fastened with big knock off spinners. IIRC 6 pin is Lola fitment so maybe T290 based or similar. Looks to short to be T70 based to me.

I was having the same thoughts about the wheels. Pin drives but no knock off?
It looks like the steering wheel may be in the centre which points further towards it being a single seater race car fitted with a kit/glass body of some sort.
Great find!

Hmm, some very good points there, cheers guys. Looks like I may have been barking up the wrong tree with the kit/VW thing then. Looks like I'll have to spend some time googling totally different variants.

Can't really add much on top of whats already been said. It's almost certainly based on a late 60's / early 70's Indy car, pretty difficult to narrow it down any further. IIRC, many Indy cars of that era were 'converted' after they became obsolete (or crashed) into things like Supermodifieds etc, so it wouldn't surprise me if some were transformed into bizarre customs like this.
I love '70's customs like that, so curse word, yet so awesome, would love to see more pictures! Such a shame you can't make out anymore of that text in front of it.
