I keep looking at the pikes of junk I call a car collection and wonder if its worth it and see people out enjoying their cars done and dusted and kicking some butt. So I think rather than arseing about with several half done cars all over the place, perhaps I should sell a few of my motors an buy something decent... or at least done. or at least sort of done. Problem is that whenever I look in the ads I can't find anything I'd want to sell all my tat to buy unless its like £15K worth of mopar muscle or something which is more than I'd ever justify spending on one car. but a mate of mine has a very interesting piece of tin up for sale soon which I was having a look over last night at his place. 1974 Plymouth Duster, 383 big block, 440 heads, pro port job, intake, big carb, Comp cam, huge headers and duals, performance built 727 trans, beefy back axle, suregrip, coilover front end conversion, caged, and running low 12s last time out. Motor is just rebuilt and now has the ported heads (although the previous heads were ali ones). looks a bit like this because its white... looks a bit like this because its goot a similar scoop or and it does this with ease... although it looks a bit more like this ( in terms of condition and stance etc.) And its five grand. Which isn't bad for a solid muscle car with decent speed parts on it. I'm kinda torn. I'd have to sell the Fury, probably the Olds, maybe the Venotra instead and some other stuff. I dunno.

Isn't part of the satisfaction of owning a classic having spent all the time and effort in rebuilding it and then the rest of the satisfaction is being able to drive it around once you've finished. I wouldn't sell all your flock for a single car unless it was something you'd been absolutely aching for forever or something that's essentially complete and greater in your eyes finished than any of your current vehicles would be.

runs 12s. low 12s. I reckon I can make that 11s. Thats the principal attraction. I'd spend five grand on my Fury and bet I'd still be in the 13s...
Also I spend my whole life (re)building and never driving.

growing up is for losers man. Buy a rusty Seat Ibiza and spend your life fitting an Integrale engine in it! It doesn't matter if you never finish it, I never finish owt.

I'd hardly call buying a 12-sec V8 monster growing up! I opened this thread half expecting to find you were considering a '53'-plate Mondeo TD LX. But all is still well in the world

Just feeling a bit low as Moparnats is fast approaching and I'll either be running embarrassing slow times or parked up bench racing about how one day I'm going to be in the 12s.
Theres nothing locally that can touch that Duster on the street.
My policy of selling cars almost as soon as I finish them is probably not for the best.

That's a step closer than me, Currently the chevelle won't be making it at all. Unless i pull my finger out and sort out another engine i'll be there in the daily.

Yay! I'm going to the mopar nats, my mates dad helps with the running of the event (tony oskien?). You cant ditch the fleet, it takes time to get the car you really want, and if you buy this new one after selling all your others, youll only pull it to bits and start building again! I say concentrate on what you have, sounds like some nice cars! And 11 area easily reachable with a large schwitzer turbo - cgi.ebay.co.uk/Large-turbocharger-Schwitzer-turbo_W0QQitemZ8074287999QQcategoryZ43120QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemA blow through set up (demon carbs do some good ones), large intercooler off a truck, and some high octane fuel. Youll easily be able to boost into the 11's! J

Buying that is growing up?! Hey time for me to grow up too! Seriously. Fixin rust and my depleting overdraft has been giving me 'sensible ideas' and i still say my tat is taking over my life! Depends what you want I'd love summat like that Duster and the fact its 'done' makes it more attractive. I think definately concentrating on one or two projects is the way to do it, unless of couse you are nightmares!

Do it.
The Duster is my favourite muscle car. You get all the benefits of a good muscle car but with non of the cliche of owning a Charger/Challenger/Cuda/Stang etc.... I also think these will climb in value strongly over the next decade.

My policy of selling cars almost as soon as I finish them is probably not for the best. I remember watching the build up of your small block chevy powered white Victor on the web and thought that car was stunning. I was suprised when it appeared for sale. I'm sure you must really miss that car. The only thing I would say is be careful not to make the same mistake again. I have been watching the effort you have been putting into your Ventora on here. I think you should keep hold of that at all costs, it owes you too much in time and money. Feel a bit cheeky giving you this advise being a newbie, and also having the habit of changing cars every five minutes myself, so hardly being one to preach, buts thats my thoughts. Sean

I really shouldn't have sold that bleedin car. really really really. but I needed money fast. Story of my life. Its being well cared for in its new home though.

Sean... I really shouldn't have sold that bleedin car. really really really. but I needed money fast. Story of my life. Its being well cared for in its new home though. Been there, done it, got the tee-shirt It was my old man who got me into Vauxhall Victors, I was there when he bought his first FD, I was probably about six years old, and fell in love at first sight! (and the car wasn't that old, showing my age again!) Since my old man died last year, I have been itching for another, then my mate turns up at one of our cruise nights in my old purple one. Might have only been a stock 1600, but it was painted in Rover amaranth purple pearl, which really shows off the curves on the FD. I knew there and then I needed another, even though I never really had a good reason to sell the two I had already had! Sean
