yesterday I took a risky punt on an old vauxhall tigra. Now the reason its a risky punt, is that the oil warning light intermittently comes on and it also has a bit of a leak coming from the back of the engine, on the drivers side (looks to be some kind of sensor which is leaking, that bolts onto the sump) Now I'm guessing the two faults may be linked. Would the sensor which is weaping oil, be an oil level sensor? the engine is the 1.4 16v jobbie have some interesting tigra pics

Sorry not able to help. Your thread has just made me think though.... When was the last time I actually saw a tigra?! Where have they all gone?!

think they have all been scrapped! had a pretty hard time finding one with a good body. most seem to have suffered from nasty rotting on the back arches, which puts me off. hence why i risked buying one with a mint shell and weepy engine! I only payed £500 for the car and have budgeted for the worst case scenario, i.e. new engine. lost the whole weekend driving around looking for a good tig. on the plus side though I did 300 miles of it in my mx5, so got to enjoy the sunshine!

Thats the oil pressure sensor.Have you tried tightening it up? If you unscrew it (after draining the oil!) Theres a brass washer that you can replace to stop the leaking. If its a dodgy sensor just get another from the scrappy or if it really has low pressure you`re probably better off getting another block.

+1 for the oil sensor pressure switch. About £6.25 from an internet auction site and a doddle to replace. Be warned if it gets bad it's like striking oil, it absolutely whizzes out.
