started making some diy tsi's after being inspired by someone elses attempt. ive gone for a slightly different method. ive roughed the shape out using a hot knife attachment on a gas soldering iron and lopped the rear off the light with a hacksaw! still needs fibreglassing, but i couldnt resist matt blacking it quick to get a rough idea as to what they will look like when done trial fitted my home-made tsi vents still need some minor finishing and I'm also planning to tin the indicator part, but I'm otherwise pretty happy with them fitted a new gear gaitor thought it looked a bit out of place so bought some seats to match took a better pic of the rear lights and rear panel which ive repainted looking a bit less poc spec now!

they did, but then they were in good shape other than the brake staining and a small amount of corrosion

Looking much better already! Surprised that it's still sitting on the standard rims... I always associate you with having a nice variety of 4x100 wheels sitting around

haha! thought i'd try own std car for a change! 6 months down the line and the mazda is still 100% std. I am tempted to get some nice wheels, as to me the 14s look too small. I will have to check with the insurance 1st though as I'm not sure if it has 'alloys' or 'std oem alloys' listed on the policy. if it just says alloys then my watanabe rs-8s will be making an appearance! wont be lowering it or anything else drastic.

These are becoming quite popular on here and I can see why. Loving the interior.

Very nice, i like mx-5's alot. It seems they are becoming popular across the board, pistonheads, here and edition38 all have numerous mx-5 owners ive noticed.

Some nice work going on their Jon. Cool cars these. Personally I'd never paint the sills black on any car as it gives the impression of raising the ride height. Body colour sills FTW! I gotta say I'm with you on not lowering this. They have a superb chassis as standard, it'd be a shame to upset the balance. Like you say maybe a nice set of 15's and lower profiles would look good. Gotta say that interior is superb, keep up the good work.
Off topic, but did I read you're gonna turbo the G40?

there were a few scabs which i had to sort, hence the black sills. the weather hasnt been warm enough really to paint them back red. its on my to-do list as i totally agree with you that it makes it look higher. As for the g40, it passed its mot yesterday. no plans to turbo it, as to my mind its not really a g40 anymore

Some great work going on right there. Liking the attention to detail....its what makes the car. One word of advice - pop your bonnet, put your hand under the middle of the rear edge of the headlight cover and pull upwards gently. Repeat on the the other side. Now your headlights will line up with the bonnet. Simple ;D They go like this through leaning on them when working under the bonnet. Dead eay to pull back into line and makes a massive difference to the way the car looks.

thanks for the tip mystery machine! your partly to blame for me getting an mx5 btw! enjoyed reading your thread, both on here and mx5nutz. CIH will do the surround oneday soon. i need to redo the hardtop anyway as the paint was a bit thin in places (that'll teach me for spraying it black in a badly lit garage! i must update the pics as ive done some more work to the vents

Loving what you've done here, just picked up a cheap MK1 MX5 myself and wonder what I could do to "harden" the look up a bit as its such a great driving car.
Really inspired me with these touches

tbh i havent done a lot. they are all pretty much OEM parts. the indicator vents are probably the most significant change, really does make it look a lot less girly
