We are all on a budget. Just that some are bigger budgets than others...

Defo on a budget here and a tight one. It can be done, but often not without the generosity of forum members and friends. Without the generosity of RR and my friends with space and skills I doubt I could have got as far as I am.

I am on a tight budget, I spend less than £50 a month on my retro and have achieved quite a lot, with supercharging it and putting mappable injection on it. If you are on a tight budget, you just have to be patient, you can achieve the same goals as someone who can spend £500 a month, it just takes longer.
On the plus side, it gives you time to make a considered and accurate plan of action that will also save you money by making less mistakes. It will also give you time to change you mind a hundred times and get confused as to what you really want!
Retro!

I know all about budgets... if funds were there I'd have my dream house and dream garage... If I could have a nice big barn, room enough for 30-40 cars, plus a few lifts, paint booth, etc... then I would be happy

While budget is still an issue, my biggest hurdle is time. I look at the build threads with seething envy, guys who update every few days with hours and hours of work done.
I've been trying for weeks to find the time to fit a few bike parts and respray the wheels on my retro.

I know that one.
I swapped the tyres round on the Trans Am last weekend and it felt like an achievement.

Budget? I'm doing my best to avoid selling this... ...because I don't have a budget. I'd be happy with 10 minutes to drive it, or clean it, or just sit in it. If you've got a minimal budget I envy you. I have no budget at all, or time, and what makes it worse is the fact that it just looks worse each time I see it. Makes me sad. Chris Oh, and for what it's worth can we make that Imp picture smaller? It's sucking up all my bandwidth!

budget is a big issue, but space is my biggest - I live in a flat so I have one allocated parking space - I still take up 2 visitors spaces (much to the disdain of my neighbours) and I have another car in a garage over the other side of town - problem with that is there is no power or light, so that car never gets worked on. the missus is trying to make me sell at least 2 so that she can put the money into the wedding fund, so technically i'm on a negative budget too

Time is more of a problem for me!
As above the Lotus and Porsche communities are VERY good at finding parts. Upgraded parts almost always get passed on and things don't get scrapped untill utterly shagged out. There is always someone after old bits.
For example I found my Esprit exhaust box was divine* and a chap down south has just upgraded his stianless exhaust to a posher one so he is kindly going to pack it up and send it to me if I pay the post! Result!
Porsche parts: I have given loads of fiddly bits to less fortunate members and tune them on my drive for people. I'd rather see them running!
I just wish I didn't have to work for a living. They sort of insist on me turning up during the week and staying for 8+ hours when I clearly have much more fun stuff to be getting on with at home....

I was on a pretty low budget but was doing ok prioritising parts and going the occasional month with no beer to justify big intercoolers etc... Then in January was made redundant and now it's zero budget and very frustrating. Keep looking at the car, fallen at the last flamin hurdle again. ANYWAY...sorry, cool stuff!!

I have a budget of 1k a year for my hobby, but i too suffer with lack of time, i have most of teh bits which i have been collecting since last june but they are all still in the loft, i work long hours and travle long distance to work, and weekends come and i am just happy to spend time with my 3 kids (all under 5) and my wife, but i know as they get older the time issue will slowly dissapear so i will do it when i have time, although my eldest loves getting invloved lol, plus i also have to keep the grass short in teh garden so the kids can play out there, time is a issue more than budget at the moment

Know what you mean... I'm now limited financially and timewise since the arrival of my little boy Byron last June.... but he's worth every second missed in the garage and penny diverted his way - so not as stressed as I thought I would be. To be fair - OB and others warned me it would happen. Work also a nightmare recently and travel has been shocking, so time home is B time - cars will have to be patient...... I am packing GF and little one off to France soon - so will get in the garage then... also need to go pick up the Hanomag for Nigel and get a donor over to UK for the Fairlane...... so what time I will have is already accounted for I reckon

Biggest sticking points for me are money and space. If I had more space, projects could go slower so that money would be less of an issue. At the moment, I'm working on a zero budget by only spending paypal money (raised through selling car stuff, sometimes at a small profit, sometimes not) on car things. It's working okay so far, but I do need to buy an engine soon.

V.little spare cash, don't have a budget though. Just try to spend as little as poss, sell something or do something for other folk, paint, or work swaps. Sometimes very frustrating as it makes things slow. But it's also made me learn things. And at the end of it I'm still very happy being out there with music, a beer, and several hammers. Re tightness here's my tool chest, made from a freebie 15 yr old sideboard, extra draws made from pallets, an abandoned road sign, and various spare stuff. Some steel for the frame and top tray was bought. Hammerformed brass handle, bottle base, "speed holes" etc. Bottle opener made from 20mm cannon shell. Bit of fun while saving strain on the ol' wallet:
