Evening all, I have a 1997 Ford Fiesta 1.25lx with a 16v Zetec engine I used it to commute approximately 30,000 miles a year, I bought it on 55,000 and its nearing the 80,000 mark. I have done nothing too it, except check the oil, and top it up... ALOT currently using about 2ltrs per 1000 miles... which I'm assuming isnt so good. I have been keeping it topped up, but not sure what else to do... I should also mention, there are no obvious leaks, the engine is a little more noisy than it used to be. Help me please, thanks in advance Matt

If you end up using some Ford steels of some description (or anything else needing 60deg taper seat nuts) be careful as the original Minx nuts are likely to be radius seats and so won't 'lock' properly on taper seat wheels. Using 13s would drastically reduce the gearing and probably make it a pain to drive on any faster road. Oh, and 4 x 4.25" would be the imperial size you're looking for Very true, I have a set of bolts both for the minx and for something else... i have no idea where I got them or what they were from but hey, definitely worth remembering though... 13's really would be temporary if they had fitted, also 13's make it easier getting out of the garage... which is about an inch and a half to low Matt

Even if you just leave your Fiesta on a set of Axle stands for a couple hours to get the ticket sorted... I don't know if the Minx is hubcentric? I guess not so centrebore wouldn't be too critical, so it's worth looking at Peugeot stuff too, and when ebaying, also searching 4x1.25 to show up American stuff that's the correct pattern Shame the fiesta's didnt fit... but at least fitment was correct. very very true to the above, I also wouldnt have known about the 4 x 1.25 thing Thanks... -heads to ebay- Matt

So checked the Fiesta rims again... Cant tell from the picture, but it was catching on the inside against the steering bits... so thats unfortunately not an option. So thinking cleverly I remembered we had a set of Mondeo wheels, so after figuring out where they were, I picked them up on route from work, got them back on tried them on... far too wide unfortunately, but looked kinda funky (was a rat look mondeo) Almost train wheel look? So no more luck yet... but we will get there.

Looking good Matt I look forward to seeing this running about Shouldn't be too long, wheels are the last hurdle, but may well have that sorted now -fingers crossed- We will have to have a little gathering at some point once this is done Thanks Matt

I thought my post worked but clearly not.. I was under the impression that these are 4x108, Matt? Which means loads of Ford stuff will fit. What size tyres are on it at the moment? Cheers ben, I was convinced I seen you post something somewhere, read it on the mobile.. but cant find it now? anyway... you certainly are right, tried some Fiesta steels (off my Mk4 daily) and they fit, all be it a little small looking (i'll post a pic when I'm home) which made me think about what wheels we have lying around... and somewhere in the family empire we have a set of wheels from a mondeo... so 15"s which might just do the job The tyres are currently 15 x 506, with good tread but very badly cracking on the side walls

Morning all,
Just looking into tyres and we've been quoted 120 a corner for the closest equivalent, found another tyre that will fit, 145 x 15,
As we don't know just how much work it will take to get it through the MOT we don't want to spend too much... so thinking alternatives...
Beetle steels? anyone know the tyre size?
Or any equivalents?
Matt

Thanks They do allow it, but some insurers don't like too, classic car insurers seem to be very picky. Also a little more work today, battery tray back in and everything wired back in, so bonnet back on, and one more bolt that I missed on te exhaust Matt

A little more done today, changed the headlight bulb, after rewiring... full beam and normal were different on each light...
then we painted most of the panels we had welded, excluding the one which requires a couple of holes drilling...
then the drill run out ! ! !
Need to get a headlight adjuster screw... rather difficult to find... then take it to MOT ! ! ! after a quick once over ! ! !
