I'm a bit too generous on the bum for those anyway. I think I'd like some recliner Recaro or Corbeau like these that I can try and floor mount to get as low as possible. I'm also wanting a smaller steering wheel. Maybe a black Prototipo or similar? If I had the cash I think I'd go with air ride but (as I'm a pauper) it'll be lowering springs like my wagon. Hopefully the Z3 is coming home on Thursday. Much as I love Cornwall, it's a real ballache getting things from up country. The train is six and a half hours.

I'd like a non M coupe ideally. I just can't afford the M version and am not a fan of the interior. Well the seats anyway. Great cars overall though. I've been looking for new seats for the Z3 that sit lower than stock. Might have to consider floor mounts rather than sliders? Any other Z3's on RR?

Yeh look great, ride like dog poo. Do you care? Do you mean when lowered or from stock? I'm going to go with Bilstein and Eibach, plus poly mount the ARB's to tighten things up. A strut brace might help too. I'd really like a hard top but they cost more than the car did!

OK, I have to admit to a little bit of bias here (having just bought a pristine example for the same price as a set of premium tyres) but I've opted to go full 'mid life crisis' and landed a Z3 BMW. Now I'm thinking 4'' suspension drop, some deep dished 16's and better brakes. An exhaust and induction mods would be nice too. Finally a little de chrome of the kidney grill and a single wiper maybe? Inside, it has to be some Recaros and a Prototipo steering wheel surely? Anyway, this is as it stands today...

Had an early start with the E34 yesterday and took a run up the Atlantic Highway to Bude to see my eldest son, his wife and their first child and my first grandson. Half a tank of V power and a quick check of the fluids and tyre pressures showed nothing untoward and I headed out of Truro. I know that by modern standards the 535 isn't what you'd call fast but once up to speed it'll cruise along at an effortless 80+ and pull past 3 figures without breaking a sweat. It sounds good too, although I plan on fitting a Supersprint or Eisennman exhaust eventually. It's funny but I always used to think of a BMW 5 series as being a large car but by modern standards it's much closer to a 3 series. I really like how the E34 feels on the road though and it's very E30 in feel really. Especially though fast sweeping bends, of which there are plenty down here if you know where to look. Although there's a little more body roll than I'd like it grips really well. Mind you, it's wearing staggered 10 and 9.5 x 17's with 265 and 235 Yokohama AD08R respectively so maybe it's no surprise? A bit more power would be nice though. Whilst 211bhp lets the 535i reach a decent enough turn of speed you have to think about safe overtakes. On an uphill section a modern Ford pulled out on me and I lost some of the momentum that would have seen me past both cars had he had he taken a moment to look before pulling out to overtake himself. Instead I had to pull in behind him and follow more sedately than I'd planned. It's at times like that I think a Schrick cam, lighter flywheel and some head flowing might be in order? Mind you, ten minutes later and I'm having fun and just enjoying things as they are. I spent the afternoon reading an old feature from a 1990 issue of Car magazine on their long term test 535i Sport.

Hi Rob, belated Happy New Year!
How are the BC's on your E34? I've been trying to decide between those of a Bilstein B8 and Eibach springs?

Thanks.
There's just something so right about them on an 80's BMW. They look great on a Porsche 944 too.
I've really grown to like the E34 also. It's like a bigger E30 in many respects and is just as much fun to drive on B roads. I just want it to ride a bit lower so am saving for the Bilstein kit.

If I had the cash I would have loved to drop in an S38 but they're big money now. Instead I'm just going to go with some head work and Schrick cam combined with a lightweight flywheel. I'd like ITB's but once you add standalone ECU, new loom and mapping it all starts getting expensive. Maybe a low pressure turbo set-up would make more sense? I know M30 love a bit of boost and I'm only after around 300 brake.
First thing will be -50mm Eibach and Bilstein B8's though. I'm also thinking of seeing if Hawk can supply some of their street performance brake pads as they were just brilliant in my old E30 M3.
My plan for this weekend though, is to give the outside and underside a thorough jet wash, followed by a quick blast down the A30 to air dry before I put the E34 away in the garage. I usually use my cars all year but live next to a farm now and the surrounding lanes have a pretty thick coating of mud and cow poo! I imagine it's a combination that will make pretty short work of 30 year old steel. Instead I managed to get the use of a nice dry garage in Truro which is literally 10 minutes away.

Thanks chaps. I must admit I'm really enjoying the E34 and it's a model I've never really been all that keen on previously. If I had I would have snapped up an M5 when you could get them for just a few thousand. I nearly bought one from Scotland for just shy of £4K that was in Macau blue. Oh well.
I'd really like to get Bilstein B8's and -50mm lower springs for next spring. I used to think of 5 series as being a big car but compared to modern stuff it's anything but. It's a really balanced chassis too, so it's easy to see why the M5 was so popular. Obviously I just have to insert that clip from Ronin...

I remember the days when e34 M5’s were reasonably priced but sadly those days have gone, that Mark looks like a nice place to be. 80's tastic! Just need some red braces now!
