The first photo in this thread is 'Sign of the Snake' 90% of this 8s the original paint job from when it was first done in around 1985. Painted by a chap called Maca at DTC (Down Town Customs). He was responsible for loads of iconic custom scoots in the 80s. I finally got to meet him at this show, bit of a fanboi moment Now more famous for his 'Streetracer' style paint jobs, all adapted from the racing scene of the mid to late 80s.

Awesome paint skills on show. Scooters ALWAYS seem to have the best paint jobs anywhere. I remember seeing one at the NEC a few yrs back that was themed on the 66 England World Cup win, it was incredible, the paint looked like photographs. Tbh that Ian Brown image looks about the same, amazing As I've said many times before, when it comes to custom paint the scooter scene has been lightyears ahead since the 80s. The man responsible for most of those paint jobs above is Dave Dickinson www.ddkairbrushing.com/

Gonna start a thread for the scooter events that I go to as an aside to my scooter build threads.
I'm pretty biased towards the style of scooter I photograph as not all tastes appeal to me.
So last weekend was an event in Scunthorpe put on by the Scunthorpe Silhouettes SC.

MOT passed! She's looking really tatty but a new clutch lever (to replace the still usable but snapped one), new stand feet ends, a new/old rear hub as the previous had seized bolts to the wheel rim, and a nice new pair of Conti Twists has started the ball rolling on sprucing her up. Also passed CBT at the weekend! Will get out on it this week and report back Looking great but please get a suitable rear lift please ๐

I'd love to get the chance to do some Signwriting on a vehicle in this modern style.

Other way is to get a piece of wood long enough to touch the top and bottom of your wheel and still reach the arch. The mark where the arch is, measure it and you should have a spacer size. I was trying to think of something logical along those lines ๐

Rears need spacers, I thought 15mm but reckon I could get away with 20mm? What's best way to measure what I need?

In that case 16" steelies would have been the better choice! There what I wanted, ideally with the rears banded but quite thin on the ground

I'm dog shiyte at quoting, I always though maftin was a Lincolnshire/Humberside saying See I always thought it was from the other way, Barnsley is the hotbed of south yorks colloquialisms. Ave bin in'tarn (Barnsley) for nearly 10 years and never heard that. I've heard it a lot from old Scooter lads I know from humberside way and I lady I used to see who was in Beverly. By all means it works lol

My Dad and Grandad buit a mini scamp using a Riley elf in the 70s. They also built a ranger aswell which was a similar kit car. They look great when done, I suspect on the reg alone you would get decent money for it

(the phrase used was reet maftin, which you either get immediately or youโre not from Yorkshire) so I rewarded myself with a cornetto. I'm dog shiyte at quoting, I always though maftin was a Lincolnshire/Humberside saying

^^^ That was my thought, too tbh. A darker shade of yellow as a contrast to the green would work, too IMHO. I doubt that some stainless trim rings would be available in that size? Trim rings would be the way I would like them and chrome bullet centres/spider caps
