I was asked a few weeks ago by my 83 yr old Aunt if I'd help clear out her shed and garage her other half was a serial hoarder and boy oh boy yesterday I saw the fruits of his hobby a full day saw only a third of the shed emptied, i've got 8 trolley jacks, loads of old school tools, big spanners, old fire extinguishers, and 7 concertina tool boxes so far. theres so much stuff i'm steadily building a "scrap man" pile of stuff thats too rusted but where is best to move all this stuff on for her?? my first thought was car boot as people can see whats there (sadly that means me doing the car boot too any other ideas please feel free to suggest i'm in Doncaster if anyone is interested in taking a look at the stuff too once its all sorted, thanks

my thinking is whatever the best suggested is it may well end up in my yank pickup somehow If you're planning on putting it in an F250 and still want sprightly performance, then none of the small 4 cylinder suggestions are going to cut it. Fairly obviously, you're going to need a turbo 6 cylinder or a V8 to get an F250 moving quickly, which will hurt your economy goals. Generally, the preferred approach with them seems to be big American V8 on LPG and tune it up. LPG is very high octane, so you can increase the compression quite a lot. If I'm correct, your truck has a 351 V8 in it which is already on LPG, you're not going to find many other engines with better bang for buck. Ask some LPG experts how much compression you can run in an LPG 351, put in a set of high-compression pistons (or shave the heads down) and stick in a performance cam, headers and intake manifold. Throw away all the petrol setup and run it on LPG only. That should get you moving at a decent rate with the minimum running costs you can expect in a big truck. The other alternative would be a turbo-diesel, but you're going to need a fairly big one. the F250 went a while ago, the mpg was crippling hence the question as I want to go older but have some slim chance of economy. this comes 1st tbh, fun 2nd and power last. if I could get all three then great, but I want an old truck I can use daily if I want without feeling like i'm throwing money in the gutter every ten minutes turbo diesel I think will be the way forward for my needs

This is a question I have been debating myself recently. Only thing we need are some parameters. I'm thinking about 200 brake or easily tunable to, Readily available in cheap donors and mpg of 25. Many chose from but I was struggling to think of anything non turbo. fairly good stats there. my thinking is whatever the best suggested is it may well end up in my yank pickup somehow

remembering the old Fast & Furious quote of the "mechanics pyramid", ie you cant have cheap, fast and good quality all in one,
two things at once maybe yeah but not all three.
this got me thinking, is there an engine out there that gives power, lots of fun and is economical all at once??

oooh nice and looks an interesting project
whats predictable about using a tried and tested method to get power and reliability into an old vehicle, seems common sense to me
