rude - is that a BMW 6 series? I had an E36 328i with onboard computer a while ago, once managed 35mpg but it was a painfully slow journey (55mph tops, no accelerating, no braking, etc..) Also ran a few 1.5D 106s, tried measuring them but a tankful lasted so long I kept forgetting to check - think it worked out about 70mpg on one trip Have fun with your project

Should have said - I always fill to the brim before I start so zero miles on the calculation is with a full tank. When I refill I always fill to the top (when the pump cuts out - this *should* be full), then a bit more to make sure... joem83 correct - November '16 is 297 miles / 12.27 gallon = 24mpg The bit that confuses me is the massive difference on different trips (15mpg might be overloaded with lots of roadworks, but 85mpg ) The 25mpg-35mpg figures don't surprise me so my figures aren't all daft...

I'm looking at doing a mini-tat-tour as there are a couple of folk wanting stuff delivered and it's a good excuse for a few days away from the madhouse I call home Receipts are here for a few tours in the past so I decided to work out my MPG figures, then I know what it will cost me in petrol to deliver the stuff. To me this sounds like a sensible thing to do, no obvious silly mistakes so far. Right? Assuming : Petrol is sold in liters, convert by 4.55 (ish) to get gallons, right? Mileage covered / gallons = MPG. Simple, yes? So what went wrong According to the simple formula above, I'm getting somewhere between 15mpg and 85mpg. I'd like to think the mid-point 50mpg is true, but I have doubts. Assume nothing, I know I've gone wrong but have the receipts - and wrote the mileage on each one when I filled up. Can anyone spot the obvious mistake that I've missed??? Pic as per the rules...

I spent best part of a year living in a tiny campervan (Fiat 900T - about Escort estate size?) when I was working around Cambridge, a good balance of space for living and still being a "normal car" size so folk don't look twice Remove passenger seat, fit big comfy drivers seat, single bed behind driver, leave 50% of van open as living space. Handy as you can park when you like (a local sports center were happy with me parking there at night - they looked on it as a free security guard), look for layby areas where truckers park up - safe and no trouble with locals. Also great being able to drink somewhere different every weekend and just walk home! Showers & loos - at work in the mornings, go swimming then shower after work. I found Spring/Summer/Autumn were great but winter was savage cold! Read up on "Wild camping" / "free camping" www.campervanlife.com/camping/free-campingThen "Stealth camping" / "stealth living" There is a scheme where you pay a small annual fee and get a directory of places where you can park for free (actually a good idea - pubs where you can have a meal and then sleep in their carpark etc), my ex used it and some of the places are very nice for holidays/weekend breaks. Shame I can't remember the name! Brighton was in the news recently for trying to stop folk sleeping in vehicles, not something I've looked into but some info www.change.org/p/peter-castleton-stop-public-space-protection-orders-from-being-enforced-in-brighton-and-across-the-ukPM sent Not mine but similar (Note it's lower than the head of the bloke standing next to it!)

Bookmarked - shed builds are always welcome As a fellow Hoarder, I can sympathise. In my case a mate offered me 1 wall and 1 end with door from a shed he had converted into a lean-to (great fun was had carrying the wall 1/4 mile from his place to mine!), and a neighbour had a skip on the drive with decking he had just taken up so he could turf his garden. I already had a half roll of roofing felt so the only bits I had to buy were a sheet of ply for the roof and a pair of door hinges Result before the roof went on i.imgur.com/8hbWcw2.jpg The first things I put at the back were a stack of winter wheels & odd tyres... I'm getting better, so far this week I've sold a lawnmower and strimmer (that have been in storage as my last place with a lawn was 3 years / 2 houses ago). Now I just need to find something to fill the space in the shed

^ Hi cortinachris aircleaner ok, how does £10 for the wood wheel sound? Any chance you can collect, I have had expensive surprises in the past posting stuff so try to avoid it if there's an alternative. Your courier? Pony Express? Where are you?

Today was a spare day (yesterday was spent chasing a few folk to make descisions, and getting "Manyana" type replies from most of them...) so it seemed a good idea to go play at the beach I remembered the camera this time, so have a no-frills-barred closeup of a rather nice wood rim steering wheel I fitted last month (after decades in the back of the garage Shame I've now decided I prefer the other 'wheel, so the wood one has been added to the sales thread. Ho hum!

I guess it can happen when the car is at a standstill (as you mention reverse) If it's making the noise when it's in gear and the clutch is pressed but the car is stationary, it has to be something before the gearbox (the front shaft out of gearbox can't be turning when the car is in gear and not moving)
Maybe the clutch release bearing or the spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft ??

^ The update is appreciated It's not a problem, I just thought something might be broken so flagged it up. I guess I need to pay more attention to stuff on the screen, have just checked and now know different sections have different buttons. Live & learn

Just for info, the "Create Thread" button is hilighted when I log in today, is this a feature/bug/gremlins/hint ? I would normally have started a thread to ask the question but that would get rid of the hilighting before anyone had a chance to look at things ... hence adding to this existing thread. If I've upset anyone (difficult to imagine but not impossible) could someone let me know the details many thanks, screengrab below if it works

You might want to read up. I'm sure many years ago (90s?) it became illegal to use detectors - which lead to satnavs with "danger speedcamera" warnings at known locations. No idea what the current situation is.
For anyone curious, I have a retro radar detector in my sales ad below...
I recently visited some relatives who live in the village I was brought up, the whole village (population several thousand) now has a blanket 20 mph speed limit.
Don't bother with a radar detector - just hire a man to walk in front with a red flag!

Lancaster have said they are happy if I do light mods and a 25% bigger engine swap. For : legal insurance with all mods declared. Against : The negative comments I've seen from folk who have tried to claim make me very nervous, price rises every year (even after moving from a high-crime to zero-crime postcode)

I was hoping I just needed to get insurance then visit the post office. It's just unfortunate that I missed the mot-exempt cutoff by 3 months so I need an MOT before anything else. I'd like it on the road but there are a couple of other things taking priority Sometimes things are so simple, othertimes... Thanks for the info & advice, it's all appreciated!
