Top marks for the new colour scheme - suits the shape a lot nicer for me than the purple did. See marinanut above, l'm not sure why but the front arch doesn't feel quite right.. Nice work !

Looks good I like the side trim but I've not seen that type before - is it pinstriping or chrome? Not sure if it's just the photo - dash look like it has a chunk missing just above the speedo, maybe take a different photo (the original dash on mine had a similar crack - it is possible to change them if needed) When I was thinking of selling mine I asked for valuations, you might find the replies interesting forum.retro-rides.org/thread/198943/hillman-hunter-estate-daily-driverUnusual use name you've picked - any story behind it ?

I'm now staying with friends in North Wales for a short holiday. The trip to here was fun : Alston still had lots of snow lying - first time I've sent snow for a few weeks. Decent b&b at Victoria inn on the main street, Phone: +44 (0)1498 381194. Penrith was OK for an overnight stop, shame the weekly Iive music is on Saturday's and I was there Friday. Oops. Landlord asked if I'd had the car from new - not sure how to take that! He did redeem himself when he pointed me to Brunswick yard, it's an area of small units selling interesting tat and salvage. Had a look at Windermere but too small and touristy so went a few miles further and ended up in Kendal. Highly recommended! Shame their live music is most nights apart from Saturday - and I was there on a Saturday! Locals gave me directions to a very nice real ale pub on the river bank - shame I can't remember the name. Weatherspoons did a nice curry tho'

Hi Chris. This has been one of the few builds I've been following for the past few months but I didn't have anything useful to add - I still don't other than to let you know it's been a pleasure and an education to watch the progress! Many thanks for taking the time to keep us all updated Congratulations on the way it's turned out !

Great idea I'm often doing work on cars / bikes / houses / garages so cheap & clever ways to solve problems are always appreciated ! (see my "Wombling" thread for pics of some of my more unusual projects )

A couple of times I've bought daily drivers with long MOT left, only to find out after a couple of months that the MOT was dodgy and the car obviously hasn't been "MOT-able" for a couple of years. Not happy! As the new owner - my problem is that if I report it to VOSA I'm effectivly scrapping my daily driver while it still has a long MOT on it.
In your case, I'd be flagging the car and the garage with Vosa, or bringing it up with the garage that did the MOT.

Thanks , the move went very smoothly Driving the rebuilt engine when fully loaded with tat prized possessions yesterday was such a pleasure, just point it at a hill in 3rd gear and it happily pulls up to the top without slowing. Proper old school pulling power

Hi, there was a similar thread last year but I can't find it.
I'm trade (not motor trade) and got told to take a payslip, bank statement, or business card when I went to collect my card at the local branch - but they gave me the card without checking the documents.

Tappets aren't my favourite job, but I see 2 ways you can tackle this : Check everything (don't adjust) - measure each tappet gap, write them all down and compare. It will be very obvious if one is way wrong. -or- Adjust everything - I normally undo all the tappets before starting. Set them as normal and tighten the locknut when done, makes it easy to see if you've missed a cylinder. For any job, pick a cylinder where the inlet & exhaust valves are "rocking", use the list posted by davey to see which cylinder you need check /adjust.

I see the core problem as how to target folk *not* already in our circle. The occasional Email I get ("Advance notice - RR Gathering tickets are on sale now!") is ideal for me, it does it's job, and I don't have to filter out "filler" emails. The existing email lists are a fantastic resource, but no use in this case. Search "promotional car sunshade" - something like this for sale at The Gathering stall on show day? 50 as promo freebies for the public? I'll happily buy the first one www.garrettspecialties.com/auto-sunshade-c-2_279.htmlMkX - agreed on both suggestions : "Go Яetro, go Lo-Tech." A high impact A4 poster that you can pop in the window when parked up will be noticed by "outsiders" ferny - invite media to shows. Yes Wait... there are people who don't have RR stickers in their cars? Yep - that would be me (and there's a good reason I can't see it changing) Clamity - I already get plenty of junk emails, sending me a weekly update would soon see me removing myself from the mailing list ianlea73 - putting your recyling (flyers etc) under my wiper is not a good way to make friends with me RR stickers may be an exception

Very impressive results and I find the way you've done them just as interesting - photo updates of the progress will be appreciated if you can I've seen body panels being made in the street on some videos of Cuba (and India?) - maybe have a look if you have any spare time

Where in Wales? If North - get up into the Mountains - Capel Curig/Betws Y coed/Llanberis - I grew up on Anglesey (but live in Pembrokeshire now) and love that whole area. If you're in Pembrokeshire or Cardigan or Carmarthenshire - you're more than welcome to come over to meet etc etc. Final desination will be Porthmadog / Portmeirion, normal route is M6 through the Lake District - A55 - A470 passing thru' Betws Y coed. North Wales is staring to feel like a second home I'm there so often, love the vibe (relaxing in Summer, savage weather but very refreshing in Winter) Meeting up sounds good but I don't think I'll be that far South, will let you know when I'm in Wales and have a better idea of my plans

Todays episode is more about skip-diving than the usual (random?) topics. I'm trying very hard to get rid of anything I don't need, but one of my neighbours asked me to help them move some unwanted furniture they were taking to the tip. It soon ended up in my workshop (ie front room ). So much for me getting rid of stuff I've had a lot of pine funiture over the years but this is best quality I've ever owned. 100% timber, dovetail joints on the drawers, the drawer bases are made from slatted timber (not the usual hardboard or plywood). Nice The idea was to give it a quick tidy it up then use while I worked out what the long term plans were. The top responded well to a very gentle sanding (any more would have removed the original stain colour) followed by French polishing. A mate who has offered me free storage saw it before I had decided what I was going to do with it - I'm delivering it to them next week Karma in action 2 weeks earlier the same neighbour gave me an unwanted set of drawers to match the desk above, that also come up very nice. It's the same very high quality, but I don't understand why the maker didn't colour-match the 3 repairs they made to the knot holes on the top edge Full credit to the original manufacturer, the lable said "Pickwick Pine" - worth hunting for if you are looking for quality furniture Once again, I'm amazed by some of the stuff folk throw away ! For info, it looks like I'll be visiting friends in Wales in the not-to-distant future, let me know if you're based there and have coffee & biscuits in stock * *Plans may change at any time
