I'd suspect stuck choke or something gummed up / old fuel.
We had a sunny many years ago as a spare car and it would start happily after being left for weeks. Great mechanicals shame about the rust! On ours if you took the top off the aircleaner you could see inside the carb. The throttle is a disk on a spindle inside the carb - normally closed - it opens when you press the accelerator. Choke is similar - closed when cold and should be open when hot. Suggest you learn how to remove the filter top, put everything back together and go for a drive. Remove the filter top when the engine is hot and check if the choke butterfly is open or closed. Do not drive with the top off.
Things might start to work normally if you just drive it a few times, when it warms up and gets some use.

Hi, I have a glass fuel filter between the fuelpump and carb on my daily, it makes it very easy to check fuel is flowing ok. Your pump might just need priming, easy if you fit a glass filter - remove pipe from the carb and suck to get fuel from the tank to the pump and up to the carb. Stop sucking when the glass filter shows fuel or you will get a mouthful of petrol! You could also try removing the air filter and pouring a splash of petrol down through the carbs, then try starting. If it fires you know ignition & compression are ok. Note glass fuel filter, above-right of the radiator cap.

^ I'm touring for a while so don't have access to tools or an engineering workshop, no harm in asking but afraid I can't help. It looks like I'll be visiting Birmingham (Kings Heath) in a couple of weeks, happy to meet up for coffee & chat if you're near there? Just guessing here : I'd expect pistons to all wear at the same rate, if you have a snapped piston ring etc you would get 1 low compression reading, you have 2 so I guess the problem isn't worn pistons. Check by putting a bit of oil down the bores and retest compression? Maybe try to get the head off and check valve seats / regrind valves etc. Worst case is you then know the head is ok - so the problem is bottom end.

Hi, some thoughts... A decent concrete base will need a few weeks to dry before you can build on it so laying that is task#1, but you need to know what size garage you are putting on it... If running power to the garage, I'd lay the cables underground before any building starts. Timber = not secure, won't last forever. Prefab concrete = quick but beware condensation, sometimes advertised free, search "sectional garage - buyer to dismantle and remove". Breezeblock = reasonably quick & cheap, apperance? Brick = looks nice but is expensive. Beware asbestos roofing if you buy a used garage. Not z-specific but I tried my 1st full engine rebuild recently, good results and it worked out a lot cheaper than I thought. Not something I've tried but it will need a hefty pump to get volume of water at pressure (a windscreen washer pump gives high pressure but low volume etc) Make sure you don't get a flat battery if you're using a big powerful pump with the engine turned off. Google says your tank would need to be 100+ feet above the plump to give 45psi www.convertunits.com/from/psi/to/foot+of+head

^ to redrill the hubs etc I'd ask Rosamund Rebores (Kitty Brewster estate, Blyth). Not sure if he can do anything with wheels but no harm in asking.
Exhaust Doctor (next to Stand Easy / Better-Blast powder coatings @shiremoor) weld up alloy wheels, they might be able to redrill yours if you ask.

Am I the only one not seeing the the mailing list options on my (Win7) laptop? scimjim - nice clear instructions (thanks) but it's not showing on my page. keyring / mylittletony - it's showing fine on your screenshot but my screen is different (I don't have your lefthand column - Netfix / Mailing List / New threads )

Shmbo has an Iveco Iris minibus (ex-nhs patient transport) which is based on a Daily, body is fibreglass so I'd guess the body unbolts

For cutting the pipe, use a proper tool. Plumbers merchants often have cheap mini-cutters. I think my last one cost under a fiver.
