SiC - yep, 'twas me, I'm in on a driving holiday For info I found another chain of bunkhouses offering cheap accomodation www.st-christophers.co.uk/hostels Today was spent playing at a local water park - first attempts at stand up paddle boarding were "ok", falling in the first time did wonders to wake me up ! www.croftfarmwaterpark.com/watersports/ Prices for equipment hire were fine but I felt £2 for a cup of instant coffee in a plastic cup was taking the mickey TIp : I found out afterwards they do cheap deals on Bank Holdays (AM only) I'm also tempted to try the sailboarding - if anyone has any advice can you PM me I've also lost my satnav which is making navigating *really* interesting - how did we ever survive using just roadsigns and our inbuilt sense of direction.* I used it to find Bath so I had it then, I've emptied the car today and can't find it so I have no idea where it's gone. I'm not looking to my next visit to my ex as I borrowed it from her and it looks like I'll have some explaining to do * Note for our younger readers - there was a world before satnav & google

greencarfritz - it was great to meet you at RRG, thanks for the advice about South West I'm now exploring around the area - especially liking the North Coast Woolacombe - plenty of waves so lots of surfing shops & folk. Ilfracombe - I spent the first evening exploring the lovely harbour. Next day I found the town also has a busy high street! Top (and cheap) accomodation at Ocean Backpackers ( independenthostels.co.uk ) Combe Martin - a quieter surfing village (& cave exploring tours by kayak). *Best* home cooked pasties for a long time from the local butcher ! Porlock - nothing special for me but the road from there to Minehead is FUN (steep, twisty, amazing views) Minehead - holiday coastal town, nice to see unusual stuff in independant shops View across the Bristol Channel ( "Sun, Sea, Sand and stuff" - I don't think so ) ps - does anyone have a welding set I can make use of, to fit a small patch before MOT time?

Which abbreviations represent the Body Parts and Metal Sorting and Recycling facilities along the way..., for those daring pedestrians and vehicle operators who don't quite manage to safely cross the tracks? Lance I guess you also need to plan for any shops or offices that get snagged when the train goes past Keep up the good work, and remember to share just so we can compare it to our own public rail networks. ps. I've been visiting a few narrow gauge stream railways in Wales recently, I'm not sure our mainline stuff is really progress

skinnylew - yep, I was told import tax on cars is at least 150% The Doctor - they have a "kick the tyres" meet there every Thursday, the one I went to was just their normal weekly get-together It sounds like you can find a local meet every night of the week during the summer ( the other meeting I went to was a regular Tuesday event ). No chance of getting bored

Advice for anyone thinking about getting a fitted kitchen installed - don't use B&Q.A releative asked them to replace her very dated kitchen with a modern open-plan type. One of the main tasks was to remove a couple of old fashioned full height 1960/70s units to give more bench space. The work was done when I was abroad, one of the old tall units has a gas meter at the bottom so the B&Q planners decided they couldn't fit the new units unless the gas board moved the meter (££££) - photos below show the new "improved" kitchen Note the bench (with kettle on) is a lot smaller than the bench they removed, and the oversize fridge freezer blocks a lot of light from the window img.retro-rides.org/i/v/nomad/cdedd3a1f89c.jpg The "problem" gas meter, I have no idea why they didn't just cut the back of a unit so it would fit around the meter img.retro-rides.org/i/v/nomad/d345e12cbccc.jpg On a more cheerful note, I wombled several shower doors/screens a while ago when I bought a cheap bath from a plumber who was moving house. I fitted the panels a few months ago as a glass wall (lots of light, and stops the free-range parrots from going upstairs !). A good zero-cost solution It's not obvious from the photo but the blue floorboards above the doors are part of a new built-in cupboard in the bedroom. I removed part of the (wooden) bedroom wall and used the timber to built a platform over the stairs. It made a handy bedroom extension for free. Simple and effective My latest score was for a full-length hardwood stair bannister that was removed 20+ years ago. That soon found a new home Add a handful of brass screws I salvaged last year to nicely finished off a job that that was first mentioned several years ago (I even polished the screw heads in the drill chuck for extra brownie points). It was very well received, and all done at zero cost As a bonus I've been promised a bottle of vintage home-brew to take the RRG, I'm *very* happy with that ! (I've some from the same batch before - it's not to be confused with the modern stuff folk call homebrew) I'm hoping to be exploring around the South West sometime in the future, if anyone has any suggestions about places to visit just let me know !

Quick update : I left Wales last month and had a trip to Tyneside before flying to Denmark for a couple of weeks. Wales was hot & sunny, Denmark was too hot and too sunny. The photo below isn't Wales or Denmark I fitted a spare head yesterday to see if it fixes some odd running problems I've been having since a hose popped off and things got a bit warm. Things seem ok so we're now officially en-route to RRG (complete with tent, beers, tools, clothes, and a spare 12 ft staircase bannister "just in case" ) I'm expecting to be visiting South West (Bristol - Lands End etc) after RRG, so if anyone knows that area (where's good / where to avoid) feel free to PM me or have a chat at RRG !
